So, former Oregon players tried the same " hire this guy, he's one of ours" we tried successfully. It did not work.

Then there's just the chance that they got a better coach than they would have had if their plea had been acted upon. Time will tell.
Interesting response that could be applied to either situation. An observation, or a hidden intent? You are no doubt one of the most enjoyable folks on the board, poking the bear, making him think he's tickled when he's gouged.

Disclaimer: I really do like Beamer

Truly.

Perhaps they should've written their letters to the President of the University and contact several Board members. That seems to have much greater effect.
Sounds more like they should've written it to Wilcox considering he was the one they wanted and he turned the job down. The AD apparently listened to the players.

What is fascinating was Wilcox was being trashed by a vocal portion of the fanbase......sound familiar? He was smart enough to avoid that situation and keep his other head coach gig. Thank goodness Beamer was not already a head coach or we might not have lured him.

Comparing us to them considering the money they have to spend in general on football is not fair. Comparing how Beamer does compared to their new coach is like comparing apples to oranges in a way. Or at least comparing an apple in a store vs an apple rotten on the ground. Ha.

We also need to change our perspective on the whole player coach thing. Back in the old days, you didn't give a crap what the players thought after they signed a letter of intent. Conform or quit and play nowhere. Coaches knew what they were doing and players didn't know squat. We're not in that world anymore. Fewer players will put up with Mike Leach bullshit. Players have more options today, so having a coach that appeals more to the players is a big advantage both in recruitment and retention. The open question with Beamer for me was how being a "player's coach" translates when you become the head coach. Easier to be everyone's buddy when you're not an ultimate decision maker. But he showed this year he can stay positive, run the program, and exceed expectations. The players still seem to be positive on him. Very encouraging, and his style is more in style right now. A lot of upside here.

I would suppose that nothing happened at Oregon that Phil Knight wasn't OK with. Some people go to greater lengths to placate donors than others.
