Something like this would look awesome in the North End Zone of Williams-Brice

Good luck getting rid of the Floyd building. That’s what’s holding up expansion on that end.
There's no reason it can't be incorporated into the design. The existing offices remain with a view of the field and the suites are built above it.

For what it's worth, I don't think there's anything wrong with WB that can't be fixed with a winning team. I'd hold off on any major improvements to the stadium until the team starts winning. If you start a project now, fundraising will be difficult and you'll have to do whatever you do on the cheap. Wait until the fans are excited again to announce any projects and the fundraising will go a lot better.

This is true. It’s hard to sell another expansion of either “club level” or even regular seating when you can’t sell what you currently have.

I agree with and understand that concern, but aesthetically and practically speaking going forward, this is exactly the kind of enhancement that end needs - that or something else like it.

I absolutely agree it looks great and I don’t see any reason that it couldn’t happen with the Floyd building remaining in place. I will be surprised if it doesn’t happen eventually but there are other improvements that are probably needed more.

I say remove the Floyd building, since that is an issue, and name whatever splendid facility is placed down there for that family - unless some other benefactor gives most of the money for it. Something would have to be named for them.

I think they should remove all the existing bench seating from the lower decks and replace them with more comfortable, individual seats. Increasing comfort and at the same time reducing seating capacity, which I think needs to be done.

(Yeah, like that's really going to happen.)
I would agree, except I would refit the entire stadium with the seating you mention.

Why can’t we build a deck above the Floyd building and big screen. Have it sandwich between?
There’s not much room until you hit GR blvd. if you’re going to build up that side of the stadium you need to do a complete demolition and start over.

We don’t need expansion. We don’t fill the season most games as it is. And I know if we win more fans will show. But I’m not sure that today, with the way games are televised, we need to expand even when winning.

I was trying to be conservative by only doing the lower levels at this time. But yes, the uppers could be done, too. I don't think we need to seat 85,000 fans. Those days may be over, and not just for USC.
There are games, and then there are games. We aren't Nebraska. They are the only game in the town and in the state and they come to games regardless. It's a cultural thing. If we're determined to build in the most seats we would ever conceivably need, we're going to be looking at a lot of empty seats.

As much as i enjoy sports, one has to question the dollars that are thrown into a facility thats utilized 7 times a year.
Society's priorities are f'd up.
If they were really concerned about things they would put speakers all over the place and eliminate the giant ones by the scoreboard. Its not 1975 anymore. And while i am at it, is there some reason the refs microphone cant be fixed so there is no reverb?

The question was raised several years ago in a BOT meeting and the old Doc (Fowler) had a **** fit. Thus, the issue died, but the structure is simply not adequate for what USC needs to have in that area. We need to put the ole USC bulldozer to work and redesign that whole end zone together with an addition of at least 10 more rows behind the current last row - the north zone is where most students want to sit (stand) anyway, not the northeast corner or, Heaven forbid, the East Upper.

I have heard this many times too...the Floyd family is standing in the way of North End Zone projects. Seems some savvy negotiation from the university could figure out a solution. The University of Houston had a similar situation with their basketball arena. They wanted to do a major renovation and wanted to shop around new naming rights at a $20 million price tag. The existing arena was named under a previous naming rights deal. So, the university negotiated a settlement with the family that put up a statue of the guy the arena was formally named after and named a street after him in agreement to move forward with the renovation and new name. Seems like around Carolina AD we are the only ones that aren't savvy enough to figure these things out.

See info below.

Fertitta’s $20 million gift is the largest individual donation ever to UH Athletics. The renaming plans didn't sit well with the Hofheinz family, but the university settled with the family, announcing plans to erect a statue in Roy Hofheinz's honor and changing a street name to "Hofheinz" as well.
