I heard the announcers say that Duke and I think Kentucky wanted Bates. He went to Duke and didn't start so he transferred. Kind of like the Larry Davis situation years ago at UNC when he came here under Fogler and lit it up. Paris needs to keep his eyes open for these kids who are looking to start and aren't getting the opportunity. With the portal and nil you won't convince me there isn't contact between these kids and other schools through clandestine means. Certainly can't hurt.

Bates went to Memphis after reclassifying into the 21 class. He was like GG as he was supposed to be the top guy in the 22 class. He started early on, played poorly, got hurt, and didn’t win his starting job back. His issues are that he is still physically frail, and shot selection.

Most of the coaches in the country are looking for the same guys.

Larry Davis wasn’t getting time at UNC because of his defense and better players ahead of him. Fogler wanted him to score and he did. He averaged 44 in high school at Denmark-Olar. My team played against him in a tournament. We held him to 32. Fouled him a lot because we couldn’t keep him from going to the basket. He made tremendous number of FTs. I enjoyed watching him play. His high school coach was a friend.

Thanks for the correction Adcoop. My ears don't work as good as they used too and my rememberer has certainly seen better days.
