Greetings from sunny but wet Founders Park! Collyn Taylor here to keep you all company thorough the night as the No. 1 seeded Gamecocks take on No. 4 Rhode Island.
It dumped here early, but it's sunny right now. Puddles on the field and we're monitoring one more cell to come through, but every indication from South Carolina says this game will start at 7 p.m.
Gamecocks trying to win and force a matchup with UNCW tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Lose and they'll face Duke in an elimination game at noon.
Gamecocks going with Clarke Schmidt (9-3, 2.96 ERA) against another great pitcher in Rhode Island's Tyler Wilson (12-1, 2.08 ERA). Wilson hasn't allowed a hit in his last 14.1 innings pitched. Hasn't allowed an earned run in 55.1 innings.
Should be a fun one tonight. Don't expect a high-scoring affair by either side, but should be pretty tense.
