Steve Spurrier had a bone to pick with SEC Network analyst and radio big wig Paul Finebaum during Wednesday's national television appearance.

"I watch your show occasionally, a lot," Spurrier said. " I heard you say Spurrier and South Carolina had a terrible year last season. I wanted to let you know we had a winning season and won the bowl game. Down here we don't call that terrible, we call it decent.

"I thought maybe you thought were were 2-10 or something like that. We had a decent season. Fifteen years ago we were 0-11 down here, so that's what they refer to as the terrible season."

Spurrier then touched on the upcoming 2015 season and the current quarterback battle between Connor Mitch, Perry Orth, Michael Scarnecchia and the incoming Lorenzo Nunez.

Good for him. F'baum probably (if he deigned to care about women's

basketball) probably would have deemed the USC women's season as mediocre because they didn't win the big one.

No patience for that idiot.

What I wish SOS had addressed with Paul was a statement by Finebaum last Fall that the SC program 'was headed in the wrong direction' - or words to that effect - a frontal attack, imo, but then again, perhaps today's admonishment by Spurrier will send a message to Finebaum to watch his words in the future - maybe - he's so focused on what Bama and Saban's doing that his head is permanently stuck up his _ _ _!

Clearly, he was hired by the SEC to attract Bama fans. It certainly had nothing to do with talent!

Feinbaum asked him how much longer he planned to coach, which Spurrier responded "How much longer are you planning to be at ESPN Paul?"

Wow! I just wish SOS had given a similar response to the media last Fall re: how much longer he was going to coach at USC, i.e. the '2-3 years' thingy.

At any rate, it's good to see the HC's trying to make-up for that mistake. My favorite would be, 'When they carry me outta here feet first'. I had a middle manager once who responded with that answer to nosey queries about how much longer was he going to work for the company. Man, it shut 'em up in a hurry!

For an SEC team, last season was terrible, PERIOD. 3-5 in the SEC and getting embarrassed by Clemson is not decent.

I'm sure I'll get hammered for actually agreeing with you, but I think you are right, Relatively speaking. Don't forget, we were also a preseason top 10 team and finished 7-6.

On the other hand, I understand what Spurrier is doing. Defending his team, staff and himself. Finebaum is who he is and quite annoying. I'm ready to move on, but last season was a huge disappointment.

Wasn't it SOS that asked fans to stop applauding mediocrity? Guess time has changed that way of thinking.

For the life of me I don't understand why anyone would put any faith in what this man has to say. Of course you can look at him and see how much football etc he has played in his skinny life. You can train a chimp to do F'baums job.

Not really. Spurrier would call the season decent, but you'll never hear him call it a success. You don't hire a new DC if you are applauding the season, and you don't make the comments he made a the bball game if you are accepting mediocrity.

Another comment from Spurrier to F'baum:" Paul, I know that we are the same age."
F'baum: :"There's about 10 years difference in our age, Coach"

Not to start a pissing match here Beckham and you can spin it anyway you want BUT G-C-Gamecock is correct, Spurrier did ask fans to stop applauding for effort and good games, he asked that we expect winning.

The Spurrier that made those comments after the Auburn loss that night, years ago, wouldn't have said a team that played as bad as we did last year was "decent".

With F'baum he was just defending his team. Steve Spurrier knows that we were decent offensively last year, but over-all we underacheived and weren't good!

In 2006 SOS said don't clap when we lose. Even if it's a close one to #2 Auburn on Thursday night.

Yesterday SOS said we had a decent season cause we pulled one out in The Swamp to ultimately go 7-6 vs. 5-7.

Spurrier wasn't saying he was happy with the season he was tell monkey man he viewed his comments as an insult. He was sticking up for the program and for his staff and his team. It will be better in 2015.

Finebaum was right, it headed South and we will see how this year works out.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "decent". To me, decent = average. Yeah we underperformed expectations, got humiliated a couple of times. But we also beat Georgia, Florida in the swamp and won the bowl. Stuff like that used to get T-shirts printed in Columbia. So it evened out to an average, decent season. Not want I expected but not terrible.

Some of you will argue with a sign post.

Was it a terrible season....no.

Was it a good/great season....no.

So it was DECENT.

SOS didn't ask for applause, didn't ask for fans to be happy. The way some of you act, it was like we went 0-11 and got blown out every game.

Should we expect more....yes.

Well put, Sully.

As said above "3-5 in the SEC and getting embarrassed by Clemson is not decent".

I guess it depends on what you think decent is.

We got embarrassed by Kentucky and Tennessee, and was blown out by our rival who had a freshman QB with a blown out knee.

If that's decent then I need to recalibrate what decent is.

Well stated..........a 1 legged QB should never beat us like that. Should have taken his head off if whether he kept it or handed the ball off.

Spurrier is defending our players and our program from a clown like Finebaum. As soon as things started turning sour this year Finebaum was all over us. This is the same guy back in the 90's that said we should have never been added to the SEC. I was done with Finebaum back then and I don't watch him now. I'm glad that Spurrier stood up for us.

Also, for those bringing up the Auburn game from 2006......do you really think Spurrier would have been ok with us clapping for a close loss this year? Of course not. Yet some would imply that is the case just because he said we had a decent year. Saying we had a decent year after the team salvaged a winning season is a far cry from saying he's satisfied with a 7-6 season. I guarantee you he's not satisfied with 7-6.

The only caveat is that I will agree that a decent season has to include beating Clemson. Period. End of story. I know he probably didn't want to say it because he didn't want to give any free press to Clemson. However I think he understands the importance of that game and his comments at the UK basketball game were directed to that end.

Dang! Sully got it right! And yes, we do expect more

I think a lot of you are confused on the meaning of decent. Decent doesn't mean good. It's just a little better than average and since we won more games than we lost decent is a fair description. A terrible season would have been finishing below .500

Plus, it's always decent when you win a bowl game.

It was a terrible season. losing record in SEC and lost to Clemson. That is all that matters.
