Stoops Contract....7 years, average 7 Million.

The Kentucky FOOTBALL coach.

Yep, times changing.

His response: "We all know I'm paid too much."

So, what not more than two years ago was the going rate for championship expectations has now become the going rate for competitive respectability expectations.

Believe it or not, he owns his own bourbon distillery !
Yep, got 2 bottles of it at home. It's good stuff!

Stoops has done very well at Kentucky. But I sort think he’s reached his ceiling at UK. Only time will tell.

Because those trade jobs only pay well because they suck and no one really wants to do them.
Tell that to a boy that I graduated college with. He went to tech and learned hvac. By the time I had graduated he had opened his own business and was grossing 400k a year in business. He seems perfectly happy now at 33 running his business while hunting all the time.

My best friend from high school is a welder and works 4 months out the year. spends time of time with his family.

Now take my dad who was a surgeon and never home.

Crazy how all of your friends happen to be the lost extreme outliers.

They also pay well because they are in high demand. Not because no one wants to do them but because we push college so hard. More people should chose not to go.

They’re in high demand because no one actually wants to do those jobs.

Your last sentence is just not true. But you can be blinded if you would like. Many articles online that lay out the reasons. You philosophy applied 30 years ago but not in 2021. Sure is funny that wielding schools are popping up.

Dude bad mouthing technical degrees is full of crap. I have an Industrial Electronics degree and it has provided well for my family. I’m in the management side now and all the guys reporting to me are knocking down six figures. They work in a good environment and it’s not hard on their bodies.

How many hours a week are these guys working to make six figures?

Crazy all of your technicians are making more than actual engineers.

That is the key....and you have to be a natural salesman and promoter. Had friends from HS who did the same....but this was when the GSP area was just beginning to explode in the early 1980s. A lot depends on timing and where you are located....as it does with any business.

So let's examine because I think this is bat shit crazy. He is good for KY, I suppose. You do have to look at his SEC record, though.

Kentucky:58–5329–45 (Conference)

So out of the 29 wins, 7 were against us (while we were in decline, no less) and then Vandy for about 10. That means that 58.6% of his SEC wins were against Vandy and us. He has rarely beaten anyone.

This points to why we should be kicking their ass. They are nobody. They don't beat anybody. He could fall off the win wagon anytime and we could be a part of that.

Talk about settling for mediocre. Contract is ludicrous.

Know what’s really crazy? That an adult (I guess) would troll a sports forum running around the threads going nanny-nanny boo-boo to the folks trying to have conversations. Now that’s crazy.

I actually applaud this level of trolling if what you’re saying is intentionally hypocritical.

if you meant it, it’s very well done.

They make over $35 hr. plus a yearly bonus. That leaves them needing somewhere in the low twenties to crack 100k. They get there in a hurry with 1.5 pay over 40 hrs. and 2 x pay on Sundays. Sure there’s overtime but I don’t know any Engineers working a flat 40 hrs. a week where I work on a consistent basis.

Or any owner or a company for that matter.

"Not really" to my first, second, or third sentence? I'm guessing you were responding to my first sentence, but I wasn't certain. If you were, I would simply say we have differing opinions. Anyhow, Merry Christmas!

Sorry. I was alluding to the fact that 59% of his SEC wins were against Vandy ànd us. Just don't think it warrants all the praìse and especially doesn't warrant the money. JMO.

Merry Christmas!

My brother was a nuclear certified welder and also worked only four months a year. And get this, because he could only absorb a specific amount of radiation each day he only worked two hours welding but got paid for an 8-hour shift. He earned twice as much as me with my master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Yeah but their lives suck compared to their peers with debts.

The trade school argument is such bad faith.
I actually agree with a lot you say about our football program but I really disagree with you on this one.

The legal field, that I am a part of, is filled with tons of unhappy supposedly successful folks. Your career doesn't make you or define you. I know welders making more than attorneys and they literally work maybe 6 month shutdowns.

Matter of fact I probably know more plumbers, welders, landscapers, etc that are wealthy and happy than professionals. They have crews that do the physical work and they manage the social networks and professional networks. Seems like they have it figured out.

That said I took the traditional path of college and postgrad. I do pretty well and only work a month or so if you add it all up lol That said I am actually going to branch out into some of the blue collar fields to diversify some. I am actually happier watching something being built or fixed.

This is the problem. Everyone always looks at the small group at the top. Do the workers doing the physical work seem happy and have life figured out?

The reality is, the majority of people who go to trade schools are going to end up being the worker bees and not these success stories. The same way the partners at Skadden are loving life while the majority of the attorneys working there are miserable with their lives.

So while being a junior associate is miserable, they're sitting in air conditioned offices being miserable mentally. Welders, plumbers, Hvac people etc are working in miserable conditions literally destroying their bodies to earn others great wealth.

And that's literally how its always been if you focus on material wealth. You can't change that mindset unless you have a revolution. There's enough crumbs out there to prevent that.

Oh and the workers I speak of aren't really at the top, so to speak. I know lineman making 6 figures. They seem pretty happy to me.

Probably because you don't have much interaction with them.

The BLS publishes all this data. To make 6 figures, they're working a significant amount of overtime and spending a significant amount of time away from home.

These jobs are easy to say they're great. But all the data shows why they have trouble filling them.
