Technic question: are db’s not supposed to look back to see where the ball is?

That’s what every staff I’ve ever been on taught. When the receiver looks back, you look back. Maybe that has changed but I don’t understand it.

Another one, when a db is engaged with a receiver downfield why doeesn’t the db break free from the block and not get manhandled!

Some of the toughest blocking to teach is downfield blocking. It’s an art. It’s usually open field, the ref is watching cause he wants to throw a flag, D-backs are elusive, the man you are blocking has space to react, etc. So you mirror block and let the back react? Or go hard and get the D-back to be defensive, get him off pursuit angle? Would love to hear what some say on here that have coached it.
