The girls gave that game away tonight.

Outside of Boston and Cooke, we play out of control. We were trying to go 1 on 3 several times down the stretch only to dribble it out of bounds.
Just like our men’s team; sloppy passes and out of control drives. 20+ Turnovers loses games.

Both teams did not shoot well USC- 36%, UConn - 40%. USC 3 pt 11%, UConn 13%. Big item, TO - USC - 21. USC big edge in rebounds. What happened to a match up zone on Bueckers? Never let their best player score 50% of the score.

That last three was a fitting gamecock way to lose, girl heaves up a miracle three straight brick that took the luckiest bounce ever. We find the worst way to lose in every sport, a comedy of errors.

Now why drag our freshman yr into this?
Expert testimony, I guess. What gets me about this is, as much as both teams struggled, they had somebody to step up. And that particular person is going to keep on stepping up. She will keep on vexing us until we identify somebody who can do the same thing for us.

They sure did.

But, most of the errors is sh*t that has plagued them all season - missing easy layups under the basket and free throws.

It's all good - we're still in there.

They lost a non-conf game - okay. We're still cooking where it truly matters.

UCONN was up for that one. They played hard and under control. Their blonde headed Freshman took our girls to school. We'd beat them at home in front of our crowd but looked like we didn't want any of that last night.

IF we get an opportunity to play UCONN again, perhaps Staley will realize she got OUTCOACHED by a better coach, and we got OUTPLAYED by a freshman. Same thing every series, throw up hope under the basket, continue sloppy passing, and inability to guard a player that had 1/2 of their score total. We definitely read our press reviews before the game. Maybe now the team realizes they are "not all that", and will play much better in the future. Did I mention we got beat by a freshman??!!

Both USC and UCONN have potential to be Final Four teams this year. From a South Carolina perspective:
1) USC is a very good team with talented individuals but they do not play at an elite level consistently like they did last year. They consistently miss layups/shots close to the basket that you have to finish and they consistently miss free throws at a high rate (even though they had 2 good games at the line a week ago). That's who this team is.
2) Clearly this team, which has only one senior, does not have the leadership yet to be an elite team. You can't force someone to be a leader, but Harris and Herbert-Harrigan were definitely that last year. If this were a men's team, you would say, this team doesn't have that player with "big balls." Sorry for the crudeness, but not sure what the female equivalent of the term would be.
3) Staley got out-coached by Gino... again. I've seen over the years when talent was equal or close. USC scored 11 straight points in the 4th quarter late and then Staley called a timeout. Why?Also, late in the game, why did Boston shoot that three pointer? She has made a few of those this year but only shoots 25% from three. Also, with Henderson playing so terribly and there was obviously no other option, why was she continuing to drive in the paint where the two 6-3 girls were waiting to alter or block her shot. That goes back to leadership.

Again, USC is a good team that has a chance to do some good things, but in the 2 games vs. top competition this year (NC State/UCONN) USC has laid an egg when it had an opportunity to do something great. For that reason, I can see this team not making it past the Sweet 16.

Hope they can pull it together and win the SEC. It will be tough with road games at TN and A&M. Go Gamecocks!

The better team did not lose....the better team is the team that hits their shots, and scores the most points. The Gamecocks played to be the losing team tonight....

Yep. The better team finds a way to win. If you were dumb enough to give the game away, you're not the better team.

Bueckers 31 of their 63 points . That's all

Right. I brought this up before. We don't double, so we allow the other team's best players to go off (Howard, Dungee, the girl from Iowa State all had big games against us), but we don't allow the other players open looks. It worked great last night. They were the #1 offensive team in the country coming in. We held them well below their average.

We turned the ball over WAYYY too much and missed WAYYY too many layups, yet we were tied with the team that will be ranked #1 next week, on their home floor, at the end of regulation. That's how good our defense is.

They had the game at the end and made 2 rushed attempts on offense instead of milking time and putting up a good shot. They even had 4 shots to win the game on the last shot and missed a 15 footer and 3 put back lay ups. The last 3 by Bueckers was entirely luck. Time running out she heaves it and it hits the back side on the left side of the rim and goes straight up and then goes straight in. Our guard were wedged out at the front of the key and should have tried short jumpers instead of banging it down low. Beal should have been on Bueckers the whole game instead of a flurry of others who usually got picked out by screens. They had no fast break points which is their go to. I hope they play them again and learn a big lesson.

Too many easy opportunities to win the game. Definitely the better team lost tonight. Dang!

Bueckers is the real deal. I hated to lose, but had to smile because I knew she was going to find a way to win the game for them. Dawn was not just paying lip service when she said Bueckers is a generational player, a term that is usually thrown around too much these days. Don't mean to call out any of our team members, but can't mince words either: our guards got owned last night. The silver lining is that Boston likewise is the real deal, and we truly do deserve mention as one of the top teams in the country.

That is of no interest to me now. Any season that doesn't end in a national championship now is a disappointment. It vexes me that there is a player out there we have no answer for.

It vexes me too. On top of that, I believe they have the no. 1 incoming frosh this year too.

I think they got beat in OT on a simple 30s sequence - the lucky 3 point shot and the forced drive by us with the TO. It is really that simple. I knew we were in trouble when we had 4 chances to win on the last possession in regulation and failed.

I do think that Staley got out coached by Geno. And I don’t think that will change as long as he’s coaching. The talent will be similar, but Dawn tends to let the girls play - sometimes it feels undisciplined. Talent can overcome sometimes, but not against an equally talented team that is disciplined
