July 30 update (Chris): South Carolina's coaching staff is looking to sign one more linebacker in the 2020 class to pair with current verbal commitment Mohamed Kaba. Whitehead, who visited Columbia unofficially back in mid-June, is one the staff has under consideration for that slot.

Whitehead released a top seven this summer consisting of Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin. He's visited the first four programs, although he missed a return visit to Tennessee for the Vols' pool party function last weekend.

The Georgia product has drawn looks at the college level at running back and linebacker. Georgia has an offer out and would hold the cards for the Athens native if the Dawgs pushed, but so far that has not appeared to happen. That staff is also recruiting Whitehead as a running back and along with landing Kendall Milton this week, appear to be recruiting some other top-tier backs that may be higher priorities.

Whitehead is not a big communicator with media, we can say from experience, and our understanding is that he's also fairly quiet in the recruiting process with college coaches.

His plan appears to center around making some official visits at the outset of the 2019 season prior to rendering a choice as soon as possible afterwards. There's still mutual interest here between the Gamecocks and Whitehead, still a prospect to track moving forward.

OFFERS: Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, Wisconsin.
