Time for a new baseball coach

I can read your intent is to be sarcastic đź‘Ť
The point is to why continue to bash the team/ coaches each time they lose but never post when they win etc
Which is exactly the purpose of letting the season play out
It has nothing to do with individual opinions
Sorry
Exactly, i’ve been thinking about this a lot! Are you a gamecock fan? Then why not pull for your team until the seasons done? It just amazes me that you could give up on bunch of kids that are giving their all until they are eliminated and I don’t mind calling out people that want to criticize and be negative! Guess what we’re still playing! Not sorry

Most of the posters I talk to praise the team at times and criticize the team at times. It depends on the team as to which trumps which on any given day. Sure there are a few posters that only post when they can be negative... it's the internet. Shocker right?
Personally I value the opinions of a sunshine pumper about as much as I do a negative Nelly but it's the opinions of everyone else that I'd much rather hear.

Game 2 looking like the keystone cops, base running errors and poor fielding…cant keep giving a team extra outs………

3 hits…Pathetic…Game over…season over…send Kingston packing.. we all know Tanner will give him a five year extension and a huge raise..Oh how this once great program has fallen. We used to be the Alabama of baseball, now fans are satisfied just to make the top 20 once every ten years…..this is totally unacceptable……………..

Agreed. Nothing short of Omaha should be accepted. Tanner doesn’t have the balls to fire Kingston, this program will be mired in mediocrity, happy to win a regional. Sad!

Not sure how 2 games from Omaha is a bad season. Glass 1/2 empty syndrome has to be a miserable way to live life but I’m guessing the ones that do have it don’t realize it.

Go Gamecocks. Go put the work in and build back better

Spoken like a true sunshine pumper. Must be miserable going through life accepting mediorcrity. Some fans have higher expectations than you. Not making Omaha for the past 10 years is unacceptable.

While I understand the frustration with the past ten years since the back to back, it's sad to think that every program except the 8 that go to Omaha are "accepting mediocrity."
Is a game. It's played by kids. My kid played at a D1 school. Players are committed to winning but they know every contest has a winner and a loser. Hopefully you win more than you lose.
It's reasonable to assume we should be in Omaha more than once in a while. Saying the season was a success, however, doesn't warrant the fall back "sunshine pumper" label.

Didn’t mean to hit a nerve. - My 2cents is they had a very good year. Not a great year. - They showed improvement and looked good. Probably a player or two short of having a great year .
I don’t see it as sunshine pumping even though I am a positive and trusting person in nature. I tend to see the good in most anyone that is giving good effort. This team gave good effort all year and came up short against a team that can very well win it all. UF is a good team.

True, i still say the injuries hurt our recor which hurt hurt iur chances of hosting a regional qnd ultimately keeping us from Omaha! And i do see player improvement from our staff, i must be watching a different team from year to year!

IMO the fundamentals were not very good this year!! Too many defensive and base running mistakes during the latter half!! That (IMO again) is coaching!
Your opinion is your perception. . That will never change. Good luck to you.
I’ll assume you’re only talking about their loses. 1/2 empty. I’ll continue to support the team. Anyone that leaves will be replaced. Btw. Oral Roberts going to CWS - it happens.

Oral Roberts has a very good team, no surprise there.

52-12. In baseball that's good no matter the competition
I guess Bama should be happy with 11-2 and LSU winning SEC. This program won back to back National titles, a winning record IMO isn’t quite enough!! If you are happy with the Yardcocks sitting home and watching the college World Series, I am glad you and your sunshine pumpers are happy.

Section, there are a section of Gamecock fans that just won't accept not getting to Omaha, I can understand it, we've shown we can do it and some think that's enough to warrant a trip every few years, I can remember a time that was Texas, FSU and So. Cal, I wonder how their fans feel, my point is it's just not that easy. Pre-season I believe most would have been happy with a trip to regional and to me they overachieved my prediction, I call that a good season and something to build on, I just don't think tearing it down and starting over every four or five years is the way to get to Omaha, I believe at one time there was a certain part of the fan base that were ready for Ray to move on as well, we see how that worked out.

If you had said before the season started that the team would end up a regional host and make the supers, any of us would sign up for that in a heart beat. The issue is that we started so hot and then finished so cold is the source of frustration. The idea of what could have been is going to drive all of us nuts. We basically spent 2/3 of the season without our top 2 weekend guys and one of our top relivers in Eli Jerzembeck. Will Sanders just seems like he had some sort of mental thing going on all season and then Noah Hall had the back injury. If those three guys had made it through the season, we probably would have a decent shot of being in Omaha.

There was only a slight improvement in team batting average from last year to this year (.263/.273). We have got to improve our team batting average and the has to start with not trying to hit the ball out of the yard every game. Elite teams bat .290 or higher.

In my opinion we give Kingston an extension, but decrease the buyout in case the program takes a dive next year which his teams here have historically done after a good year. No one is beating down our doors to take him. Im not sold on our pitching coach, he leaves guys in too long. We need him to do better in the future. Im also hopeful that if Monte Lee sticks around another season he can bring in and coach up some better hitters.

It was a VERY good year. We played some great baseball this spring and represented the university well. At one point being ranked 3rd in the nation. By some of your folks wisdom there should be all but 8 coaches out of jobs this summer. Silly. With the number of injuries, yes injuries, to KEY players, Kingston and the staff did a fantastic job keeping the team together. If you are so miserable that you can't enjoy the moment and have some enjoyment of what these guys were able to do, then maybe some counseling or medication may help. Not trying to be funny. Hate to see Braswell go, he was a key in filling in for some of the injuries and very versatile. Looking for great things and another fun spring next year. Can't wait.

I dont think you can be young or injured every year, but that has been the case with Kingston driving the bus. At some point you have to break through and produce the result you were hired for.

His HS recruiting has not at the same level where Holbrook or Tanner had it although he has seemed to do well in the transfer market. I just dont know if things are set to get better next year or not.

This concerns me greatly... not recruiting as well as we used to but using the portal well. Sounds ok but doesnt exactly scream winner. Something tells me you wont see that kind of perception of the teams still playing... which is who we should be emulating. It appears we still have a lot of work to do.

That was far from a mediocre effort. We scorched the regular season up until the injuries and were ranked at high at #2 in the country (#1 in RPI.) We dominated the regionals before losing to the #2 team in the country on their home field who could easily win it all. Game #1 of that series was as tight as it gets and swung the momentum.

In terms of recruiting, that might be a legit issue. However, college baseball recruiting/rank is bizarre versus other sports. You can easily lose your top recruits to the majors even before they arrive on campus.

Like most things in life, its not how you start its how you finish. The second half of the season was a total collapse. The regional was a gift with some of the weakest teams we could have played. If winning a regional is the ultimate goal for the program now then I say congratulations to Kingston on a job well done.

So true, if his goal, and the teams goal was to go to Supers! Congrats you made it, however there are others that expect this team to get to Omaha. If you are happy with being mediocre, you are gonna enjoy Kingston, I bet for many years!!

Recruiting grounds change. RT didn't change as his go-to Charleston travel program watered down because of greed.
Where one finds talent is an ever changing environment. When you get lazt like Tanner did, the game leaves you behind.
Let's hope we can figure it out and keep up.

Is that why the team didnt have the post season success from 2005 to 2009 that we were accustomed to in the early 2000s? I always thought it was because Lonnie Chisenhall and some other future MLB players got kicked off the team for stealing stuff from a kids dorm and that there was a talent vacuum that took a few years to overcome.

So you believe it's time for a new baseball coach? I just don't buy into the notion that a team who was one of the top teams in the country 80%+ into the season suddenly forgot how to play and coach? Seemed like it was largely a function of injuries which were well documented. Not to mention, you can be one of the best teams in the country and still lose to that Florida team in the Supers on their home field.

Really good year.

No way in the world you get rid of a coach after this year.

Let's see what happens next year.

I was referencing after 2011.

I am okay with keeping him one more year but if it becomes 11 years of not going to Omaha?? That should never be okay for this program. Moral victories are beneath where we should be in this sport. That's the cold hard truth.

I wonder if going portal route will be used mostly for recruiting? I realize it can't be 100% used. Maybe used to replace what we lose to the draft etc.
IMO you can only build a solid base by recruiting HS players and develop them while they play for USC.

I agree, but now days you may be developing them to go into the portal, total chaos! But it is what it is! Who is willing to be the highest bidder?
