So the Top 100 camp finished up Saturday afternoon and included its fair share of South Carolina targets over the course of the five-day camp.
The camp's structure is a little weird with players coming in Tuesday night and going through instructional drills the first day before starting games Wednesday night. Due to the recruiting calendar, coaches could only come in and watch/evaluate players from 2 p.m. Thursday until 2 p..m. Friday, which meant coaches had to be smart in who they watched and evaluated.
South Carolina sent two coaches up to Virginia for the camp in Perry Clark and Chuck Martin to evaluate and watch some of the team's biggest targets in the 2020 class.
The players they seemed to watch most were Earl Timberlake Jr., P.J. Hall, and Cliff Omoruyi, three of the bigger names on the Gamecocks' board in 2020.
From observing, it looked like Martin was observing every game Timberlake played over that 24-hour stretch, usually sitting courtside for those games. He'd also watch Hall play, and Clemson's Brad Brownell and Florida's Mike White were also front and center watching Hall as well (Hall officially visited both Clemson and Florida before the camp).
Martin was also on-hand to watch a lot of Omoruyi, especially on Friday and saw him put up a 20-point game. Omoruyi's been on campus before and was recruiting some by Martin during his time at Indiana and now at South Carolina. Omoruyi plays at Roselle Catholic in New Jersey, a place South Carolina's recruited well at landing Chris Silva and Alanzo Frink out of that prep school.
When watching Hall, they were able to take a look at seven-footer Josh Gray as well, who was on Hall's team all week. They've been recruiting him and trying to get him on campus for a visit sometime soon. He said this week he doesn't have any visits lined up right now.
They also spent some time watching Terrance Williams, who will finish up his official visits with a trip to Georgetown this week.
A few notes:
--P.J. Hall's stock had already been pretty high heading into this camp and it seems to have gone up even more. A lot of people were talking at the camp at how well he played and how good he looked against some of the nation's best talent. He has an extremely high motor and can really defend. He also showcased a three-pointer that made people notice him in a field of over 100 three-, four- and five-star talent. He'd also rebound the ball really well over the four days of games.
--Omoruyi showed a lot of promise as a physical rebounder and was really solid inside. He's getting a lot of interest from Kentucky but says South Carolina stays in pretty constant contact. The track record of pulling guys from Roselle doesn't hurt his opinion of the program.
--I left really impressed with Timberlake, who looked every bit like a top-30 player. He's physical, can put the ball on the floor and can get to the rim easily. He's also a good rebounder given the fact he's 6-foot-7 and not as tall as some of the bigs he was playing against.
He'll still take a few visits and take his time with his decision (no timetable just yet) but he'll likely trim his list down after the AAU season.
How each guy did this week at the camp:
