Top 5 Gamecock Bowl Wins

Pretty good list, but I think I might put that Liberty Bowl at #3, possibly even #2.

Sadly there aren’t that many to choose from. Easier to deduce. My favorite was carquest because I was there.

My favorite were the 2 Outback Bowls back to back. Sorry about your criteria.

Both were fun trips with a friend and we enjoyed a nice, relaxing trip.

Got a speeding ticket souvenir on one of those trips which ruined some of the fun.

My top 5:
1. 2014 Capital One Bowl—highest bowl we ever played in. Highest end of season ranking. Should be 1.
2. 1995 Carquest Bowl—if you aren’t over 40, you probably don’t appreciate how snake bit we had been in bowls. Had to get the monkey off our back.
3. 2002 Outback Bowl—the most exciting finish, but at the end of the day not more significant than the first bowl win or the one that secured a top 5 finish.
4. 2013 Outback Bowl—not sure anyone remembers anything other than “the hit” at this point. Great win but man the Outback Bowl representatives have probably been to more Gamecock games than some of our season ticket holders.
5. 2006 Liberty Bowl—fun game, lots of points, beat a well coached Art Briles team. Early in the Spurrier era and the win provided some momentum to help recruit for the high years.

Honorable mention: 2001 outback bowl. Pouncing Ohio State with an exclamation mark was the perfect ending to one of the best Cinderella seasons ever in the history of college football.

You are so right about #2. Doesnt seem that long ago we were 0fer for a 100+ years. It was getting more embarrassing with every loss.

2013 Outback for me. When the referee tried to give the game to Michigan with The Fix, Clowney countered with The Hit and it was everything.
It wasn’t just that play by Clowney. The rest of the game kept me at the edge of my seat.
I hope we can return to playing like that one day.

That was a great game! At the end I was hoping we could get maybe 10 - 15 more yards to set us up for a makeable field goal for the win, then, BOOM, Dylan to Bruce!

Exactly and the crowd that’s too young to remember that really can’t put it in proper context how big that carquest bowl was. Like you said we were literally playing football for 100 years without a bowl win of any type to show for it. If that streak were current today, we’d be celebrating a win against Miami of Ohio in the Bahamas Bowl if that was our first one.

I remember the team running around the stadium after the game and to a high school kid like myself at the time it felt like a national title.

Hey guys, this was my list. Hope you all enjoyed. If I were to rank them based on importance I would go:

1. Capital One win over Nebraska
2. First Outback over OSU
3. Outback Win over Michigan (The Hit game)
4. Capital One win over Wisc
5. Carquest.

I pretty much agree. Two plays made the number one, number one!! Cocks were screwed by the refs, even the announcers could not believe that call, then, possibly the greatest one play in South Carolina football HISTORY!!

We LOST to William and Mary in a bowl game. William and f'ing Mary. So yeah.🙂
I don't believe that is true. Our bowl loses prior to the 95 Carquest Bowl.

1945 Gator Bowl- L to Wake
1969 Peach- L to WVU
1975 Tangerine- L to Miami OH
1979 Hall of Fame- L to Missouri
1980- Gator- L to Pitt
1984- Gator- L to Ok State
1987- Gator- L to LSU
1988- Liberty- L to Indiana

Carolina has never played William and Mary in football

You're right, I'm wrong. I was thinking of M of O, got it confused with my sister in law's school. I just go off the top of my head on here, sometimes disasterly so. My apologies to everyone. We lost to Miami of frigging Ohio!

Ironically I randomly pulled Miami of Ohio out of my butt blissfully unaware that we had actually lost to them in a bowl before.
