If muschamp was still coach would agree, however we got a walk on from them and are sitting good with the big DT.Well that's not good for us.
Not good for DF, either.Well that's not good for us.
BSThere definitely is. Every much as there was a BCS champion. There are like 10 high schools that are just at another level. They play each other and all of them have like 15+ Division 1 players each year. The best team in another state really can't compete with them. I still remember when Byrnes was ranked #2 nationally (probably their best team, I think Lattimore was playing for them then) and went to play St. Thomas Aquinas. It was college athletes playing kids. Dutch Fork would have been whipped up and down the field by Mater Dei or St. John Bosco.
I think everything you said about IMG's resources has merit. But I'll guarantee you they don't have a football coach better than Tom Knotts.I don't have a big problem with that. You have to look out for your career more than your teammates' hobby. IMG has far better coaching and resources for players and plays against much better competition. If you're a potential NFL talent and have a scholarship to IMG (or the similar school in Vegas), you're crazy to stay at Dutch Fork.
A screw you would be that kid Xavier Dye who played for Clemson from a while back. If I remember correctly, he already had a scholarship to Clemson. But he chose to transfer from Greenwood to Byrnes because he thought he'd win a state title there. He didn't even change divisions (both 4A at the time). I do remember Byrnes lost in the playoffs and Greenwood beat Conway for that title. That was a nice "screw you" to his teammates. He wasn't good in college either if I remember correctly.
I’m sure IMG will also be offering classes/instruction on how use social media etc to market themselves. With the new “rules” there’s no reason a High School kid can’t start making some money using social media. Even a few thousand dollars would be a big deal for many of these kids.IMG will be selling guys to the highest bidder with the NIL rules.
I’m sure. There is a reason they keep referring to this as a business decision. The NFL is not a guarantee so these kids and their families will start cashing in as soon as possible.I’m sure IMG will also be offering classes/instruction on how use social media etc to market themselves. DF is definitely a high-profile program.College coaches will find and recruit you at DF as fast as they would at IMG. If you've got it, you've got it in this day and age.
The player does. The “scholarship” basically locks you into using IMG as your agent if you make it to the NFL.Question concerning IMG: who pays the freight?
I wonder how many parents will start asking for colleges to buy them out of IMG agreements when they are selling their kids as part of the NIL?It's pretty shady. Their website says they don't offer scholarships right now but do have a limited amount of financial aid. Current cost to attend is $68,500. 80% of their revenue comes from tuition and fees. I'm guessing this kid's family ain't paying $68,500.

Not saying this situation, but who knows what some kids home life is like. Getting a kid out of a situation where friends are doing bad things is always good.I get the resources and all that IMG has but man, can you imagine growing up in a city for your whole life and NOT wanting to help make them great? Like you can be a hometown hero for your city and you chose to go to IMG. Best of luck to the kid and at the end of the day its his decision but I'd personally like to make my city and my high school better if I had the talent to do so!
Can't argue with that. Lots of kids are lost to environment. Not saying this situation, but who knows what some kids home life is like. Getting a kid out of a situation where friends are doing bad things is always good.
Oh I'm not bashing the kid at all, I know certain situations this would be best for the kid. I'm not sure if that's the case here or not, I was just saying in my case, I'd play for my hometown. Hope the best for the kid though! Not saying this situation, but who knows what some kids home life is like. Getting a kid out of a situation where friends are doing bad things is always good.
I think you could bet the 🏠 on it.
There's a disconnect someplace. There's been discussion in the past about how kids afford to outrageous tuition at IMG. They are for profit and clearly state that they don't offer schollies. The money comes from somewhere....collegiate boosters? It seems to be a thread nobody wants to pull on.
They most definitely do have better coaches. Tom Knotts is a good coach, but he's gotten lucky that his 11 years (and 4 titles) at Dutch Fork coincide with the weakest period in history for the traditional South Carolina football powers. Since 2010, Byrnes, Dorman, Gaffney, Greenwood, and Summerville have all been down as I think all of them lost their great coaches and made bad hiring decisions. Look at the fact of how good TL Hanna has been running a crappy option attack. TL Hanna has a long history of being a punching bag for the big powers. South Carolina football is just really down right now, which is also why it's dropped from the #7 state in producing blue chip talent to around #17. Knotts is just a very good coach in a time period where he doesn't have any competition. I also notice the Foxes don't travel to play the really big boys out of state like some of the other great SC teams used to do.
But let's look at IMG coaching.
It's not insulting Knotts or Dutch Fork. But this isn't a high school coaching staff at IMG. If you saw UCF with this coaching staff, you wouldn't be surprised at all.
- The Director of Football is an All American Offensive Lineman who won a superbowl with the cowboys.
- The Head Coach started as a GA for Charlie Weiss, became Tight Ends coach and special teams coordinator for Bo Pelini, was then quality control coach and a recruiter for Urban Meyer at Ohio State, and then became the head coach of Audrey Kell, giving them their best seasons in history. That sounds more like Beamer's pedigree than a traditional high school coach.
- The Strength and Conditioning Coach is Jeff Dillman. Say what you want about him, he's better than whoever Dutch Fork has. It's pretty wild their S&C coach was the S&C coach of 3 different P5 programs and one of the best G5 programs.
- Their Defensive Coordinator was one of the best head coaches in the state of Florida.
- Their two QB coaches are Jeff Blake, a pro bowl QB, and Kurt Gould, who trained college QBs for the NFL combine
- Their Special Teams coordinator was the Special Teams coach for Rutgers and the Tamba Bay Buccaneers
- Their receivers coach is probably the weakest of the bunch, but he was a stud for Purdue back in the day and led the B1G in return yardage
- They even have a nutrition coach who is a registered dietician, has a PhD in Sports Nutrition, and a professional cooking certification through Rouxbe culinary school. The guy was the #2 nutritionist at Ole Miss before that.
They aren’t coaching HS football. They are conducting NFL combine prep. What does any of that have to do with them coaching hs football?
So the rich(well off) families pay for their bad acting kids to go to school there. And they charge so much that they can afford to basically buy great players to come help make them a great team. All under the assumption that they do it to help these "underprivileged" children out? I mean that's better than losing games. I'm all for Carolina doing whatever it takes to win, so I understand their mindset for their program. It's not shady at all. I know someone who paid to go there. They don't do athletic scholarships. They do need-based grants, up to full tuition. Basically, how it works in practice is that the vast majority of student athletes are well-to-do (there's a very large contingent of international students who go there for tennis or golf) and pay to attend it because it's a good boarding school and helps college admissions. The football and basketball players they actively recruit often are less well-to-do and get full need-based grants. So basically, these 4 and 5 star football players go for free (and then some who can get admitted and have need) and the rest pay full-tuition.
With the NIL rules they could start now - at least on an individual basis. Imagine how much LeBron could have made when his games were on ESPN as a high schooler. It will happen very soon, if it's not already in the works. How long before High School players demand to be paid too?
Well, as I said, a couple of those coaches, including the head coach, were tremendously successful high school coaches. But on the whole, you don't go to IMG to play for the best high school team. You go to get developed into a impact starter at a P5 school and an NFL player. All of their coaches are at that level. Better coaching means it develops you into a better player. Knotts hasn't proven he can develop great college players (Will Taylor was going to be their big test, but he's definitely going baseball). That's why I said going to IMG is better for a player's career than staying at your in-state high school, and loyalty to a silly high school team doesn't come into it.
But yes, by osmosis, if a QB is being trained by a former pro-bowler and someone who trains the NFL combine QBs, then yes, they'll be a much better QB for their high school squad as well. Same for linemen being trained by super bowl champs, getting South Carolina's old S&C coach, and have a world-class nutritionist. It makes a better high school squad, but you go to get college-level training a couple years early.
Bingo! It's pretty shady. Their website says they don't offer scholarships right now but do have a limited amount of financial aid. Current cost to attend is $68,500. 80% of their revenue comes from tuition and fees. I'm guessing this kid's family ain't paying $68,500.
