Greetings, Gamecock Scoop Insiders. I hope you are having a fantastic Thursday afternoon. South Carolina is heading into a big-time recruiting weekend on Friday, so I wanted to make sure that you all are up to date on which student-athletes that I have been speaking with.
Today, I completed my article on four-star PRO Class of 2023 prospect Dylan Lonergan. Tomorrow, I will publish my piece on 6-foot-5, 295-pound three-star offensive lineman Tosin Babalade (DeMatha Catholic, Hyattsville, Maryland). I wasn't quite able to catch up with 6-foot-1, 210-pound WR Jaden Greathouse (Westlake High School, Austin, Texas) on the phone, but I will be in touch shortly once he follows back up. (Top schools: Oklahoma, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Texas).
Class of 2023 pro-style quarterback Dylan Lonergan will be one of 13 official visitors to the University of South Carolina on June 10th, and with several student-athletes visiting campus, Friday will be marked as a big day for second-year head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. Lonergan said that South Carolina is on the "northern portion" of his top five schools list, which also includes Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, and Stanford. The student-athlete is a two-sport baseball star and aims to increase his passing yardage total to 4,000 or more yards in 2022.
A good sign is that the Gamecocks are competing with top schools for big-name student-athletes, as Lonergan is deciding between Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Stanford, and South Carolina and Babalade is choosing between South Carolina, Ohio State, Michigan, and Rutgers. I also spoke with a 2023 WR (Nashville, TN) whose top schools include Vanderbilt, Virginia, and South Carolina, along with a 2024 Richmond, VA TE (South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin). All have tremendous things to say about head coach Shane Beamer, top assistants like Torrian Gray, Marcus Satterfield, Jody Wright, and others, along with the excellent team culture being built within the program. More is to come soon...
