Trout fishing NC

Bobby, let me know the area you plan to fish and I will see who I can come up with.

We just arrived yesterday . We are in Waynesville which is not far from Maggie Valley and about 45 miles from Asheville . We are definitely down to travel anywhere within 2 hours if a guide or better waters are available . Thanks my friend .

Y’all fishing today Bobby?

Not today . It looks like a lot of train the next few days so we will probably hit it hard the end of the week . I found a guide in Franklin who seems pretty cool . I’ll probably start calling around tomorrow to book a trip ., maybe 2 !! Haha

I have a name for you, but waiting on a number from my son who is a guide and has a lot of NC contacts.

Booked a trip with Michael for tomorrow morning !!! Seems like a super cool guy . We’ve had 3 inches of rain today so he said tomorrow morning will be the best shot we have . Thanks my friend . I’ll let you know how we do .
Bobby, tell him Hayden recommended him!

Instead of going 30 miles west of Asheville, come 30 miles north into Unicoi County TN and the Cherokee National Forest where I live...spend your time in the Tennessee mountains....same drive time and just off I-26...

Will you put us up in your house? 😁

I booked a guide in Elizabethton Tenn floating the Watauga river caught some nice trout a few years ago . beautiful area For lodging look at Bee Cliff Cabins nice place, great hosts right by the river

Man I’m so bummed . We were scheduled to go Wednesday morning and we got 8 inches of rain form Tropical storm Fred Tuesday. Michael checked it out and said it would be almost unfishable for days . He was super cool and the fact that he was honest with me and didn’t just just try to take my cash goes a long way with me . A lot of guides wouldn’t have done that . I’ll definitely book with him when I come back !! Funny thing is the tropical storm was supposed to roll right over my house in Florida and it went east and and we didn’t get a drop of rain and got 8 inches of it sitting on top of a mountain in NC !! Thanks for the referral !! He’s definitely got a customer for life .

That is a bummer! You’re right, most would taken you anyway! Another time maybe!

I figured after seeing the rain totals that there would be no fishing. Gonna be muddy for hiking as well.

Here's the best info you will get on this subject. Go to the Chatooga river. There are some locations to be accessed near the SC/NC border. This isn't wussie fishing as you are challenged by giant rocks and hard to impossible reach plunge pools. It's stocked well, and plenty of spawning going on. It the best trout river in both Carolinas. Find a map or use Google. Caught 5 pounders there and seen much bigger.
It has been years since I fished that river. Back then I parked in an open field not far from the hwy 28 bridge. One Saturday morning I parked in that field, and there were at least a dozen other vehicles there. I thought wow, there are a lot of people fishing today. I hiked down to the river and saw nobody. I started fishing and still saw nobody. I was wondering what is going on, packed parking lot but I have not seen anyone. Then I realized exactly what was going on. It was the first week of deer season. I suddenly felt nervous. I stayed in the river as much as possible. Getting out of river and walking down the trail was a dangerous thing to do.

So how was it being there watching the storms come through? Were y'all staying in a place w a great view across the mountains. I love storms. I was thinking it would be great to watch them coming from Blowing Rock or somewhere.
