tubby girls hitting 3 pointers at will?

Another lop-sided win by the Lady Gs, another complaint from ReadRooster.

That's not a complaint. I just found it curious that it's the second time it's happened this year.

You're right, Read, and I apologize. You're one of the more rational posters on this board. Speaking one rooster to another here. One thing to consider is that our opponents have been playing from behind all year, and 3 pointers are the quickest way to close a big deficit. MSU did miss quite a few 3 pointers tonight tho.

wow.. in 28 games it is the 2nd time??? but yet you say it happens all the time against us? so which is it 2nd time or all the time??? We are up 17-20 points so the girl is hitting some 3's the crowd was enjoying it....enjoy the win instead of looking for something negative.... and why do you have to call her tubby?? does it make a difference about her body style that she is hitting 3's????? didn't think so.. what a joke

Called my wife in to watch this "fat" girl play. Then BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM. That girl can SHOOT!!!

It was kinda funny watching it. The game was over when it happened and our students starting acting like they were at an AND1 game when she made shots. She was guarded on most of the shots and made them anyway.

At least we adjusted and had White face-guarding her. She denied her the ball for the rest of the game. Good learning experience for White.

And, that behind-the-back "pass" she made to herself, was also pretty sweet. She took the ball up the court, stopped, wrapped the ball behind her back, dribbled, and made a 3. The home crowd was definitely behind her. Would love to see a youtube montage of her play last night.

Salter vs USC last night:

I found myself pulling for her at the end of the game.(Saw most of the student section on tv. going crazy for her) Loved her attitude. I think she was almost their leading scorer and only played a few minutes. The girl can shoot the lights out. Reminded me a lot of the girl for UConn.

I think its lousy that the emphasized characteristic of that player was that she was fat. why couldnt it be miss state bench player hitting 3 pointers at will? I dont often get too worried about being PC, but really thats a shitty way to talk about someone's kid.

That may be, but for a college athlete to be in that shape is not a good thing. I understand thick or big boned, but she was definitely obese for a basketball player. The fact that she was nailing threes was remarkable.

+1 - I agree with you.

Funny how nobody blinks about 380 lbs lineman that is sucking wind after a 10 yard sprint and folks only want to talk about his skill as a run blocker or how he has quick feet, or an overweight pitcher is praised for his fastball, but a seemingly overweight women's athlete who obviously is very skillful is ridiculed. It's OK for a male athlete to be ugly, as long as he can play, but not OK for a girl to not fit the "standard" definition of attractiveness and that's all folks want to talk about. It's the world we live in. Sad.

380-lbs is overweight in football too.

Also, in football, it pays to slow but powerful. In basketball, it pays to be tall/powerful but quick. Look at Wilson, Coates, White, and Ibiam. You don't see them putting on the pounds to have power. They do so in a good framework that keeps them mobile.

Basketball is a sport of running the floor. That's why USC was able to shut the girl down when they started face-guarding her. She was too slow to get open.

Sorry...but that's just not true. Guys in sports are also critized for being overweight. Remember Jared Lorenzen? Hell, his nicknames were about his weight. Hefty Lefty...Pillsbury Throw Boy. And anytime they show a big lineman with a huge belly sticking out, the first thing people talk about his how fat and slow he looks. Don't try to make this a sexist argument. I went to the game last night, and when she ran on the court, my first thought was how is she gonna keep up with these really talented and fast players. Then we all saw what she brought to their team...she can definitely shoot.

She's is a FR too!

BTW, threads like these are why I keep coming back to this board....

True. Plus, her weight is clearly a negative on the defensive end. If she's such a good shooter, but only playing garbage-time minutes, that should tell us her size is hindering her from reaching her potential.

If she could trim down some, I could see her being a pretty good player in the future, but right now, there is no way that she can put in 25+ minutes in a game. Once she slims down, she could be fun to watch. She at least has the shooting and the swagger of a good player.

Her girth is an advantage maybe at keeping defenders at bay so she can get an open look even on tight defense. I like the way she held the pose on the follow threw, classic. She only played 6 mins and she had 14 points 4-5 on threes and she got fouled on another 3 pt attempt and made 2 out of 3 at the line.

Agree 100%. She is only a freshman, would love to have her on our team.

Exactly my point. Not worried about being PC, just don't understand grown men making fun of someone else's 18-19 year old kid. I guess I should expect as much from folks who live and die so much with how 18-19 year olds perform in games. I enjoy sports but wins and losses don't affect my mood like a lot of people here.

I think u hit the nail finally. She only played 6 mins in garbage time when the game was already over. she wud not be able to play any significant mins with our starters, she wud be at mid court waving to come out. It was fun watching her, why? if she was athletic build we wud have been worried, but with her being overweight it was funny... damn sad really...

You're the one about to be banned for personal attacks. WINNING!!!
And?

You'll still be a loser.
Only in the opinion of losers. It was a funny joke on here a couple of weeks ago when everyone on here was making fun of the UConn girl and no one was complaining. All of a sudden now it's crossed some line? Please. What a bunch of hypocrites. I wasn't even making fun of her for being overweight, I just said that she was overweight which she is obviously is. Now look at all these overly-offended LOSERS coming out of the wood-works. Seems like the only ones getting so upset about this would be the BIGGEST LOSERS. lol.

Kyle Korver is the only NBA currently shooting over 50 % from behind the 3 points line. In fact, he's the only player shooting above 46%. He's far and away the best.

Check out the ESPN video about Korver's off-season preparation. It's not about going to the gym and shooting 3 pointers. It's about going to the gym and physically challenging himself because he must be in great shape to get open shots.

Which is the reason you don't see many over-weight 3 point shooters, male or female, at a high level of basketball. If you do, then the player is an oddity.

Kyle Korver's Misogi

Makes me think of the U2 song "Big Girls Are Best".
