As always, South Carolina players met with the media this morning after practice to preview Texas A&M...
Notes from quarterback Jake Bentley:
** Asked about red zone, Bentley says that the field compresses and defenses force you into smaller spaces. You don't want to be ultra conservative but you don't want to take points off either. They talk about being "needy not greedy" with decisions.
** Offense has to execute better. That's what they're working on in practice. Need to execute better on some deep throws.
** Frustrating to have so many injuries, simply because those guys work so hard and you hate it for them that they don't get to play.
** Always approach each week like a one-game season. It's a big road game against an SEC team, but don't try to look back or ahead. Every game is a big game.
** Offense has shot itself in the foot. Off on a throw, a snap off, a false start, just things that are correctable have been the biggest issue. Just got to get better at practice, be more intentional, and focus on what is needed to correct them.
** OrTre Smith and Dreak Davis stepped up Saturday. They work their tails off too and they deserve a shot.
** A&M is fast and physical. They rally to the ball and have athletes on defense.
-----------------
** Defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth says that tackling and rallying to the football has been a big emphasis in practice. They didn't tackle well enough against La Tech. Stallworth is very complimentary of the A&M running game. Isn't anything strange they do, but they have great backs.
** Keir Thomas says that Dante Sawyer was back practicing today. He says he and Sawyer both meet extra with Lance Thompson in order to make sure they have everything down for moving back and forth between end and tackle.
Thomas says A&M has two NFL backs. Got to stop the run and have to keep the quarterback in the pocket.
** Daniel Fennell says that he's been playing more SAM linebacker, in addition to his BUCK responsibilities with the loss of Bryson Allen-Williams. Allen-Williams was playing both spots before. Fennell had been practicing at both previously but will see his snaps go up in game situations as we saw against La Tech.
** Alan Knott says he thought that Sadarius Hutcherson did great in his first career action.
** TySon Williams' mom was stationed in El Paso at one point, so he's lived in Texas before. Williams says the running backs have to perform better when there are runs called in order to get more runs called.
** Knott and Malik Young said there's an added emphasis on nonverbal communication this week heading into a hostile atmosphere like Texas A&M.
** Skai Moore said one of the biggest problems about defending A&M is the Aggies' mobile quarterback Kellen Mond. The key there is being able to read formations and seeing where his feet are set up before the snap.
** Houston native Eldridge Thompson has somewhat of a homecoming this week and said about 14 family members are coming to watch him play Saturday.
** Hayden Hurst said the offenses biggest problem is itself and they have to work on not making mental errors in the red zone.
** Ulric Jones said stopping Texas A&M 's run game hinges on the defensive players holding blocks and letting the linebackers get into the backfield to make plays.
