I've been a big supporter of these women because they are fun to watch. But holy cow they will not stop using their stage as a platform for things I dont agree with. "Protect Trans Kids"? Do they all really feel that way? Guess I'll keep flipping the channel just like I do when I see NBA.

A few things. They were playing in Texas.

While they are playing in Texas, the Texas Governor sends a letter directing a state agency (the government) to intentionally investigate parents who seek something like medication or hormone blockers - through consultation with their own doctor- for their children that are undergoing possible gender dysphoria for child abuse.

I think the Texas Governor has lost his damned mind.

Parents of children that are questioning their sexuality or gender are scared, nervous, and are often blindsided and are searching for ways to help their children who might be severely depressed, having serious, life challenging issues at school, home or community.

Regardless of someone's personal opinion on these matters, such issues should be left up to parents and children in consultation with their medical doctors, not politicians, the Texas Governor or state government.

To then have a Governor who directs a state agency to then investigate those very parents with the power of state government behind them is an abuse of office, and abuse of being a decent human being.

I was proud to see them use their platform to stand up against something that they- and I- find abhorrent.

The ONLY reason the Texas Governor is doing this is because he's finding himself in tighter than he thought election and he's trying to fight the cultural wars - a tactic he's used many times before.

I don't agree with the Texas governor. I would like to watch sports for its entertainment value. I don't get any entertainment from sports figures political views.

According to ESPN, it was a select group of them, not a collective statement by the the USWNT.

I don't see what the issue is...so many people use the sports platform to make small gestures that promote their personal convictions. IMO this is no different than someone writing Bible verses on wristbands and eye black.

That's fair. Weren't they just wearing something on their jersey? (I didn't see the match).

I don't disagree with you that I am not too interested in hearing athletes talk about their political opinions before, during, or after a game. But I don't mind hearing their opinion off the field.

I didn't really agree with Aaron Rodgers on some things but I had no problem with him giving his opinion on COVID issues on that talk show he would go on during the week. ( I realize this isn't really what you were talking about in your opening post though)

So your answer to this issue is allow them to have drugs/ other more intrusive treatments that can alter their lives forever? Why not make sure that they ARE treated for their Mental Illness and at some point after they have become adults if they choose to make those same decisions, they can. Or would that be too costly for the woke/ trans community?

I think that is fact dependent on the situation. In some cases, I would hope anything permanent would be delayed as long as possible.

But I've read enough stories now- and know about this situation a bit to realize that every situation is different.

There are cases where a child and their parents obviously know something is different and the child obviously needs to transition in some form or deep depression sets in. In some cases, young people have killed themselves because they couldn't.

In other cases, the children aren't sure and they get counseling and should wait.

But I would leave that up the parents and their doctor - not politicians and state government. Politicians are the people I have the least faith in on this issue - and the few politicians that have found out they have a transgendered child- have begged their fellow politicians to let parents and their medical providers make the decisions for their children- not politicians.

Why not make sure that they ARE treated for their Mental Illness and at some point after they have become adults if they choose to make those same decisions, they can. Or would that be too costly for the woke/ trans community?

That's more of a political description.

Cable news, talk shows, politicians can have their opinions, but the medical community should have a say in what is a mental illness over cable news talkers, talk radio talkers, politicians.
