Make sure to read this article (dated 7/1/21) that will inform you of the various restrictions in place when visiting Italy. I had some friends who decided to postpone their trip to Rome due to rules that would limit access to certain points of interest.
Good Luck.

I’ve never been, but my brother in law has whilst he was in the Marines. He went to many bars, got sideways, and fell off into one of the waterways. He had to take a multitude of shots for being in the nasty water. Uncle Sam was not pleased with his behavior.

I agree with the nasty water comment. I've been there once...found it to be a very underwhelming tourist trap. There are so many better places to go in Europe...see any of Rick Steves books.

Sorry to the OP that I have no positive recommendations for Venice!

Nevodi… amazing restaurant…
Hostaria Osootosopra - another great restaurant…

Yes it is busy… (probably even with Covid restrictions) but there is no place in the world like it… enjoy.

You really can't throw a stone without hitting a bar or pub. I've been there many times. Are you looking for something "Americanized" or just a place to get a drink? Most tourists start in San Marco Square, then branch off. Most will tell you to stay away from where tourists go because it's over priced. Go to a hole in the wall place, make a friend and they will show you the good places. Venice "Mestre" is a good city too.

Been there three times and can't remember one that sticks out. Like why said there's a restaurant/bar on about every corner. Just walk around and check the posted menus.

Went with a friend who loves American style Italian food. He was disappointed. Said Italian food wasn't spicy enough. That's pretty much true, they don't overload everything with garlic like American Italian restaurants do. They're more about fresh ingredients and natural flavors instead of an abundance of spices.

Be aware that in popular venues such as Piazza San Marco some establishments will tack on a 'seating' charge or music charge while their band is playing.

Not interested in "Americanized" at all . . . this is Italy! . . . thanks.

Enjoy yourself. Now, if you happen to make it to Firenze, Milan or Rome...let me know. There is one live music spot in Rome that has a great selection of whiskey.

Thanks but we already have an Airbnb on the next canal to the east
We ate a great restaurant in Venice but don't recall the name of it. We spent a month in Europe and thoroughly enjoyed every destination, including Venice. If I find the name of the restaurant, I will pass it along. It was a small Italian restaurant. It seated guests in two-hour blocks: 7-9 p.m. or 9-11 p.m.

Enjoy your trip!

The food is so good there. You'll stumble upon plenty of options just walking the streets.

I still prefer locals or the hotel concierge for recommendations.

If you head South to visit Rome, Naples, etc., make sure to check out the Amalfi Coast.

Take the vaporetto over to Lido and explore the island. There are several rooftop bars with a beautiful view of Venice in the distance. There is also a beach on the other side of the island, and at one time there was a casino - not sure if it is still there though.
Many bars in Venice have a dress code so be sure to ask before entering to avoid an embarrassing situation. If you're wearing shorts and a teeshirt while exploring the city then you may not be allowed in certain bars.

At one time famous celebrities from all over would show up once a year. Don't remember the time of year, but you had people from Brad Pitt to Alyssa Milano.

We went to Italy 6 years ago with Gateway 1 I think the company was called. Our 11 day tour started in Venice. We arrived by boat going down the Grand Canal. All those ancient buildings immediately blew me away, We loved Venice and can’t wait to go back in a couple of years. We just ventured back behind the front row of establishments on the canal and meandered around - went to a bar on a corner and enjoyed a drink. Many places you don’t sit but stand, Most we’re very small that I saw.

As stated by others, there are bars and restaurants everywhere you look. You really can’t go wrong.

If you are flying in via Marco Polo airport, take the public transit boat into the city. Starts you off seeing the beauty of the city. It really is a wonderful place.
