We are about 12 or 13 weeks out from the first game of the 2022 football season (I'm not a math guy, which is why I write for a living). That means if I break down about two games a week or so, I should be done by mid-July, just in time for Fall Camp to start and completely shift my thinking on every game. I'm going to keep an ongoing tally of wins and losses, and then we can see how well my early previews stack up to my in-season previews and the games themselves. Enjoy the first one (it's free, but the rest of the schedule will be for subscribers, which you should totally consider) as we look at the fighting Shawn Elliott's: The Georgia State Panthers.

I fully expect a win that game and we should do it in a blow out fashion. Anything short of that is a loss for us. We just haven’t been a team in recent years that can afford to take another team lightly, not even the teams from smaller colleges.

Last year they should have won at Auburn and they beat Coastal. Hammered a Troy team we struggled with. Almost won at App State in 2020. Beat Tennessee & Coastal in 2019. Coach Elliott is a good coach and that program is building. Heck we have a key transfer from Georgia State. We will likely win but no chance this is a blowout. None.

I wouldn't say no chance at a blowout. Most likely it won't be, but let's say our defense takes a step forward this year. If so, they shouldn't score anymore than 10-14pts. We should score anywhere from 27-35pts. Not sure what counts as a blowout. Some times the final score doesn't really represent how a game actually went either.

Yeah I’m probably going extreme with no chance but it seems highly unlikely. I see us winning by 10-14 points, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost or had a nail biter on our hands. There isn’t as much of a talent gap as most would like to think. Plus it’s game one and there’s no film on them so any preparation advantage we have is negated a little in an opener.

Georgia State has definitely given some teams a run for their money the last few years… They also have a few curious losses every year to teams they shouldn’t lose to. Definitely predicting a win but I wouldn’t be surprised with a close game, especially through the first three or so quarters.

I never count on a win. Feels like teams like GA St look at us as a beatable SEC team, and we always get their best shot. Even so, we should win by 2 TDs at least, even with our typical, slow out of the gates performance.

Since Shawn Elliott been at Georgia State, the Panthers are 2-4 in season openers so they are slow coming out of the gate also. Last season opener, the Panthers got demolished by Army.
