WBB: Five Things to Watch - Elon

Tip is at 3:00 pm on SEC Network+.

Everyone is here. LeLe Grissett and Raven Johnson are in street clothes. Raven is on crutches with a big brace on her leg, which has been her normal look since the injury.

It's a little warm inside CLA, and Aliyah Boston is not happy about it.

Gamecock starters: Henny, Cooke, Beal, Saxton, Boston.

Charlotte Smith is introduced as the "Winningest coach in Elon history," a little extra oomph for Dawn Staley's old Charlotte Sting teammate.

Saxton wins the toss and it takes two seconds for Boston to score.

Two quick fouls for Maya Johnson, and she'll sit. Boston has six of the first eight for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina scores the first 10 before McGill gets Elon on the board.

Gamecocks lead 12-2 at the media timeout.

The starting five stays out there. Staley had been subbing at the first media timeout, but since this should be a blowout the starters need to go ahead and get their minutes now.

Cardoso, Hall and LA enter at the next whistle. Gamecocks lead 17-4 with 2:55 left in 1Q.

South Carolina already has 5 blocks. I probably need to look up the blocks record, huh?

Gamecocks lead 20-7 after 1Q. USC shot 7-15, is +5 rebounding, only had 3 turnovers, and had 6 blocks. Elon shot 3-15 with 4 turnovers.

Saniya Rivers got a few minutes running point. She blocked a shot earlier and had a beautiful steal.

Stop me if you've heard this before: 3 quick turnovers are helping Elon hang around, down just 22-16.

A 9-3 Elon run cut the lead to 25-21, and then the Gamecocks remembered Aliyah Boston. They lead 27-21 at the media timeout. Loudest cheer of the game so far is for A'ja Wilson, introduced during the timeout.

South Carolina leads 33-23 at halftime. The Gamecocks shot just 4-10 with 6 turnovers in the 2Q. Staley tried giving the reserves a look in the 2Q, and they let Elon back in the game. Aside from 6 turnovers, the perimeter defense was bad. USC shot 50% in the half but had 9 turnovers. Still +10 rebounding and 6 blocks.

Same starters for the third quarter.

Sorry, I'm a little distracted watching the Team Muffet vs Team Fienberg battle on Twitter.

Henny drives and kicks to Beal for three. It's a 10-0 Gamecock run and they lead 43-27. Beal has 8 points, 5 rebounds, an assists, steal, and block.

Steal and layup by Saxton. Henny blocks a shot and sets up Cooke for a jumper. 14-0 run and the Gamecocks are up 20.

The block party is back on. Two more by LA and USC has tied its season-high with 10.

Liles fouls out for Elon. Henny misses a jumper but it's a 16-0 run and 49-27 lead.

South Carolina leads 52-33 after 3Q. USC shot 50% in the 3q and held Elon to 26.7%. For the game, USC is shooting 46.3% and Elon 32.6%. Boston has 12 points, Cooke 11, and Henny 10.

6-7 Cardoso got switched onto 5-8 Brie Perpignan. I would call that a mismatch.

LA hits a trail three and the Gamecocks are on a 7-0 run to start the 4Q. They lead 59-33 and the starters are probably done. Feagin checks in.

Feagin is fouled on a putback. She converts the 3-points play to cap a 12-0 run and put USC up 64-33.

Gamecocks lead 68-38 at the media timeout, 4:34 left.

Cardoso and Feagin have nice chemistry together. They've hooked up a few times for layups, and Cardoso is telling Feagin where to go on defense.

There is a little girl behind me who saves her loudest cheers for when the Gamecocks make a free throw. Actually, given how they've shot free throws over the years she might have the right idea.

Corner three for Liv.

Elon made South Carolina sweat in the first half, but the Gamecocks pull away for a 79-38 win.
