WBB Recruiting news and evaluations

Good article from ESPNW
I know we are very involved #2 Azzi Fudd and #7 Saniya Rivers

https://www.espn.com/womens-college...st-women-basketball-recruits-regardless-class
Azzi Fudd is likely UCONN bound. Maryland is prolly her second choice. We have a great shot at Saniya Rivers. We are heavily involved with Aubryanna Hall out of Ohio, Aaliyah Moore out of Oklahoma and Raven Hollywood Johnson out of Georgia. There are a likely a few more my spies don't know about. Also hear we are involved with 2 transfers. Sworn to secrecy on the names. Transfers are finicky business. The fewer rumors the better.

Do your spies share any insights on 2020/2021 MBB prospects?

Fudd is good friends with Bueckers and has played with her on several national teams. She has been very open and vocal that she is not tied to Bueckers and even said in a recent interview that might even be more fun to play against her as to play with her.

Ooookay! Trust me it's 90% she goes to UCONN! For the record I think she is most overhyped prospect in years. Great spot shooter, good passer. Not very athletic and not much explosion. I think she is very polished and savvy. But what I see is a girl that fully matured and peaked at 16. I just don't see a high cealing for Fudd. There is a chance she could do the close to home thing. Maybe Notre Dame new coach is intriguing to her.

I’ll take your word for her destination. I also find it amusing that any player who is not coming to us immediately becomes overhyped or (what is that term) a volume shooter

Dude please! How many of the top prospects have I called overhyped. I just posted a while back that Paige Beuckers was the real deal. Is she coming here. If you wanna share honest opinions stop being a jerk. Azzi is overhyped imho. I don't care where she goes. She'll nail threes when she is open and get destroyed on the defensive end. UCONN will have to play a lot of zone.

One final note. Yes Rhyne is a ball dominant volume shooter. Holla at me when she wins something on the court! She is great at impressing the media. UK had to put an APB out on her in the second half of their tournament semi vs Miss State. Grow up Winloseortie nothing wrong with objective evaluations by devout fans that know the sport. Get your punk ass out of the house. You seem to have cabin fever.

Moore committed to Scheafer at Texas.....

Vic is going to be a real problem at Texas. His two biggest problem in my opinion over the years have been elite recruiting and scheduling a lightweight schedule. He was already trendy upward when it comes to talent, but now he can easily get top talent inTexas.

Gonna be hard to get a National recruit out of Texas with Baylor, Texas and A&M being power programs.
Vic never upped his schedule even after becoming a perennial top 10 program

It'll be interesting to see what he does. The big 12 isn't that great of a conference. So scheduling light would mean unfavorable seedings in the NCAAT. At least at MSU he had the luxury of a competitive SEC to make up for a poor out of conference schedule

It does not effect us since we never get any recruits out of Texas.
Kelsey Bone was from Houston. She ended up transferring to Texas A&M, but she was one of CDS's highest rated recruits. #2 overall if I remember correctly.

Coach is capable of recruiting anyone, anywhere at this point. Texas might be more difficult, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her steal a recruit from there.

Me thinks the king doth protest too much

From what I saw of Fudd before the injury ,which was a hand full of games, she was quick and explosive. I also think she is a plus defender on the defensive side of the ball. Every scouting service I came across suggested the same thing. However she is coming of an injury but I haven't heard anything negative about her come back. Here is a portion of an article from Highposthoops:

Before the injury, Fudd was routinely making headlines across the nation as one of high school basketball’s most explosive players. She can score in a variety of ways whether it’s beating her defender off the dribble and attacking the rim, knocking down a mid-range jumper, or stepping out and shooting from three-point range.

She’s strong on the other end of the floor as well. Her size enables her to match up defensively against most other guards. She was honored with the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year award and was a finalist for this year’s Gatorade Player of the Year. Last summer, she was one of the first girls to be invited to NBA star Stephen Curry’s high school basketball camp.

Her talent has attracted no shortage of Division 1 colleges. Although she still has a ways to go, she’s confident her skills will translate well to the next level, especially on the defensive end of the court.

“I’m a really hard worker. I think that I’m a pretty good leader too. I like my jump shot, my favorite things about my game are my jump shot and my defense,” Fudd said. “I can’t stand people who don’t play defense, so at the next level, I will play defense. I just like that feeling of the person you’re guarding, they’re struggling and they can’t score. I feel accomplished in those games.”

Maybe I should have never said "never". My point being is we don't recruit Texas to the point that it will effect us.

Not if you base it on how Kim Mulkey schedules. She regularly schedules weak for OOC schedules. Schaefer may be using her model.....

I made the statement in response to how hard it will be to recruit Texas. I should have said "rarely" instead of "never". We got 1 homegrown recruit (Kelsey Bone) out of Texas. Littleton is a transfer and she is from California.
Kelsey Gone.

There are only six active coaches with national championships

Gary Blair 74
Tara VanDeveer 66
Geno 66
Kim Mulkey 57
Dawn 49
Brenda Freese 49

Those that it is very reasonable to expect a championship from

Vic Schaefer 59
Kelly Graves 57
Jeff Walz 48

We are in elite company with basically the youngest coach

Would love #7 Saniya Rivers on our squad. Although, USC is not listed as one of her choices - that can always change

Her Twitter has a pinned tweet announcing her top 12 and we are in it. Has she narrowed that list down?

Oops pic didn’t post but it was a tweet saying a pic was posted that looked like she had narrowed her list to 6 but that was not the case. Not sure how to post pics :/

Over the next few years our state will be producing some incredibly elite talent and Dawn will certainly have her pick. Don't remember a time when SC was loaded with so many nationally recognized high school players.

Talaysia Cooper 6’0” PG East Clarendon 2022
Ashlynn Watkins 6’4” C Cardinal Newman 2022
Malaysia Fulwiley 5’6” PG Keenan 2023
Joyce Edwards 6’1” SF Camden 2024

All will be at least top 20 national players. All have committable offers. We have been recruiting all of them from 8th grade or before. Somebody from staff was at everyone of their games that did not coincide with one of our games last year. All have been on campus double digit times and attend our games

Have seen Malaysia Fulwiley and know the family. She is not 5'11. She has been stretching out like a stringbean. Expect her to be 6'0 or 6'1 guard entering college. Would be a great get.

Espn never updates the growth in players once they put them on their page. Fulwiley and Cooper woud be a great pair for Dawn Statey in the future

2022 class is going to be a post and pg heavy class. Ashlyn Watkins will be a good get as well.

2021 is filling up mighty fast. I don't see them getting many signees.
