WBB Recruiting news and evaluations

2022 class is going to be a post and pg heavy class. Ashlyn Watkins will be a good get as well.

2021 is filling up mighty fast. I don't see them getting many signees.
Our roster is set and stable. We will have nine 5***** players and will only lose Lele off of next year’s squad.
We will have 5 scholarships to give in 2021 should we choose. I doubt we use more than 2 with as much emphasis on fit as well as talent

I would say we may do more than 2 because a lot of girls ball players are leaving early now and we will need some ready to play a year under Boston Beal and Cooke. Then they take over the next year. Not saying they all leave early but is a possibility. Would like to add a post player still this year through transfer and if not then a post next year for sure.

You can only declare for the draft if you are 22 or 4 years removed from HS, so you don’t really have to worry someone just up and deciding they are ready.

2022 is a bang up year for instate and some other prospects interested in us. After the T’ea disaster, attitude, fit and chemistry are just as important as talent. Also Dawn is recruiting at such a high level, that she is shortening the roster to have enough playing time to go around

The 2021 class is going to be really important for the program. We're going to need at least 2 to 3 players. With a 1 player class of 2020 and a 5 player class of 2019 we're not giving ourselves that much reinforcement room for when the 2019 team graduates or injury or if any of our players becomes a duds. If we strike out we could find ourselves in a similar situation to Notre Dame this past season in year following the 2019 class graduation.

First off the 2019 class is 4 scholarship players and 1 walkon.
No one wants to have an ND Situation happen. What I think you will see is that when Boston et al are seniors we will have all scholarships filled to cushion their departure.

I am not sure the numbers for 2021 but it will be a very selective class. First unless you are a top 10 recruit you are looking a two years of bench time. Dawn will sign special players or pass. If it is a lower ranked player they will be like Saxton who was considered one of the 2 or 3 most athletic girls in the class. In addition DS will not go near anyone who sniffs of ruining the chemistry and culture.

I think 2022 will be the large haul class. From what I hear gossiped Watkins and Cooper will come here. Leverage them with just one more and you have a monster class

Gamekem is right. What if someone gets hurt? Even if we get 1 top 20 recruit we should try to get a couple middle of rack players from the 2021 class that will fit ur system

Destiny McPhaul a 2021 3 star PG out of Philly was offered by Dawn yesterday. She obviously has something in her skill set that Dawn likes.

Guys I am not saying don’t recruit, I am saying DS is going to be selective. We have the most talented roster in the country. Let that sink in. We got a Porsche and you want to add Chevrolet parts??Not only that but culture and chemistry are at a point that is pointed to nationally as to how it should be done.

Look at the 18-19 roster: 13 scholarship players and only Wesolek would not have been a starter at a power five school. Deepest team in the country and our worst record in a decade. Part of that was Schedule, but the real problem was role and chemistry. Ty Harris was the same leader she was this year but some players didn’t want to follow or didn’t want their role or understand it.

DS is at a point where she is not going to recruit down for “middle of the rack players” special players who fit or pass. It will maintain talent, chemistry, and lessen roster upheaval

We made the top 6 for #6 ranked Saniya Feagin. USC, Louisville, Mississippi St, Ole Miss, Georgia and Georgia Tech

Vic is going to be a real problem at Texas. His two biggest problem in my opinion over the years have been elite recruiting and scheduling a lightweight schedule. He was already trendy upward when it comes to talent, but now he can easily get top talent inTexas.

Texas is loaded with talent. A high pct of kids in Texas grow up dreaming of playing at Texas. Ole Vic looks to me to have found his honey spot.

Yeah and unlike the previous coach he knows how to develop talent, that plus I'm sure it's a lot easier to sell the city of Austin and it's academics than Mississippi State. The only downsides I can see is the less competitive conference and the fanbase won't be as dedicated as what he once had.

A lot of talent comes out of the state of Texas. They usually have at least 5 girls listed in the hoopgurlz top 25 list coming out of that state. He'll should have nothing but success out there. Let's see how long it takes him to

1. beat Baylor in the reg season
2. win the conf championship

As we all know the staff has gotten 2 silent commitments to the program recently. Not sure who they will be until they make their announcements - another recruiting site has staked themselves that one of them is ESPN Hoopgurlz overall #3 G Saniya Rivers out of NC. Not sure how solid that is right now, but most of the other possibilities are also very highly rated prospects.

Also this past weekend, overall #26 5* 5-11 G Bryanna (Bree) Hall put out her Top 7 including us:

So to update, Rivers, Hall, and Feagin are now committed to USC. That leaves a 4th and final "birdie" that Coach Staley tweeted about, still yet to announce.

Further recruiting news, 5-star W Teonni Key - the kid sister to the Lady Vols' Tamari Key and a prospect who had USC high on her list, committed to UNC:

Key was thought to be joining her older sister at UTjr., but now will be a Tarheel.....

UNC is starting to emerge from their chaos. With the 21 class they will have 5 top 50 players on the roster. Not elite but should be making the dance
