Dawn's credentials alone should get her into the living room of any potential WBB recruit in America.

Really??? I bet Dawn Staley can do a better job with the Men's basketball team and wouldn't discount what she can do for the other sports...

Gotta give kudos to the Japanese women — they had a lot of fight in them. They caught our women flat-footed several times with their quickness in cutting to the basket. You could see the frustration of our women at times on those successful cuts. Their 3-point shooting in the first half was awesome, but alas the 3-pointer eluded them in the second half. For being much shorter in the post, they did a great job of defending, but alas the height and skill of Griener and Wilson took over to win the day. The Japanese women and their coach did Japan proud.

I thought the Japanese team played together well and ran better stuff. But we were much bigger and more athletic. The win does not always go to the best drilled team.

I think the final total shows we won one more gold than the Chinese with the cyclist pulling an upset in the waning moments of the games. Whew!

Our women’s teams (basketball including 3 on 3, volleyball including beach, water polo) are ahead of the rest of the world. Wonder how long it’ll be until the other nations start to catch up? The favored women’s teams failing to win gold but winning silver or gold were softball, gymnastics and soccer. Soccer seemed to be the biggest disappointment being the favorite but as has already been said here maybe the team was distracted by issues. Or maybe other teams were just better.

And the wrestling upset where our guy came from behind to win it in the very last second of the match.

The bar is not really high for Men's Basketball you know. No post season in four years and 6 wins last year
Staley is successful because she recruits at an elite level and in a league with only a handful of real contenders. Not taking anything away from her, but that's just what it is.

That's not how it works in men's basketball, football, or baseball. It's a different animal.

The women's volleyball team won the US women's first gold medal ever in that sport. They were not favored at all. So yes, they were both disappointments, but also surprises.

Dawn won't get much credit for the coaching job, I'm sure, since it's expected for the USA to win. But the truth is the roster wasn't deep at all. She played 6 players mainly, with a couple of other players getting spot minutes. You know Dawn would player everyone, if she could. But she couldn't. She was forced to lean heavily on Stewart, A'ja and Greiner. Stewart barely came off the floor.

We should be in good shape for the next Olympics because A'ja and Stewart will be in their prime. We need some other players to step up though. If Paige Bueckers lives up to the hype, she might be starting 3 years from now in Paris.

Well, wouldn’t that be true if Martin recruited players at an elite level? Heck, he doesn’t even recruit at an average level. Women’s basketball is very competitive even though it doesn’t get the exposure of the men’s sports. I don’t see the need to belittle Staley’s accomplishments to pump up average to below average coaches. Not taking away from Beamer because he hasn’t had an opportunity yet. However, our men’s coaches haven’t been good and I wouldn’t doubt that there are several females besides Staley that could equal their win output. Staley would exceed it just because she would probably bring in some better players. She at least has a pedigree as a player. Where did Frank Martin play?

Which conference would you prefer South Carolina Women's basketball compete in to make it tougher on them? They do play a competitive non conference schedule.

Frank took us to a Final Four. I don't care what you say, the competition level is far greater in the men's league than the women's. That's just reality. It's harder to succeed as a coach in men's sports because it matter more to just about everybody.

And I'm not really belittling her accomplishment. I'm just putting into perspective when someone compares it to men's sports. Just responding to the stupidity that she would be a better job that our current coaches, even at other sports. That's just ridiculously stupid. By that logic, we should have made Ray Tanner our football coach.

There is a reason why most discussions about the greatest coach in college history don't start or end with Geno Auriemma, despite having more National Championships than John Wooden or Mike Krzyzewski or Nick Satan or Bear Bryant. It is what it is.

The US volleyball team is not ahead of the world. That is the first time they have won the gold against the Brazilians.

A broken clock is right twice a day.. Frank has only been right once in Ten Years. I wish I could do a good job once in 10 Years and people continue to make excuses for me. You will probably hear those same excuses after we have another mediocre year again. Where did Frank play again.

I thought the worst rod job of all time was Rod Gardner.
It was terrible - and nice pun! But in terms of cosmic significance, the one I mentioned was the first time we didn't win the Gold, which was shamelessly diverted to the Soviets. In terms of us, that was also a huge rod job in football up in Raleigh with that funny clock manipulation. But being robbed at UPC topped that, to be sure.
