Yeah his odds were just better than 50/50 that they find a “soft landing” for Frank and let him go via the narrative he was “hired away”. That is not the highest degree of confidence- BUT it would be a way to part ways and have both the school and FM save face.
If we fire this man today, in light if the covid issues he and our team faced, with the pandemic still raging and in light of the fact we just fired our FB coach (revenue and buyouts issues aside)- it will make our school and admin seem calloused and it will make it harder to find a replacement we want. What coach looks at our program with the boarder state competition we have, our historic lack of success, lack of recruiting prowess, AND then you add the “covid be damned, no excuse gets you a pass around here EVEN A GLOBAL PANDEMIC” calloused/ do not take care of coaches reputation for the admin... Who would want this job at that point? There are way better job, for better schools, with less local comp for players, better long term reputations, Ability to pay as much as we can who also do not have a “coach killer” reputation... That are going to be open soon. Any self respecting coach with a shred of common sense would take those over ours if we sacrifice Frank today despite all the challenges this team faced.
I keep seeing: “Everyone faced the same challenges this year”- BS. They did not. We had more confirmed cases among players and staff- Hell Frank himself is one of a handful of people world wide who clearly did actually get this thing TWICE! I don’t know of many other prgrams who had to stop their seasons as many times as we did... we did NOT have the same experiences/ face the same challenges as everyone else this year. People need to stop telling that LIE. I get why people want the man gone but if we do it the wrong way it is as much a black eye on us as it is on him. This program does not need more black eyes... If we do what Sapakof describes and “warn transfer” him to another job? I could see that being an easier narrative to sell. Even if people see right through it, we look a lot better to prospective hires.
