Leach is the man and he would have us winning in short order.

Building talent is what we need right now. I doubt Leach could recruit better than Muschamp.

Leach has never recruited well, but beats more talented teams all the time. South Carolina is never going to be able to recruit top half of the SEC so you need a coach that has proven he can win with less talent

Could someone translate this please? I'm 43 and that might as well be Sanskrit.

30 yrs ago+ - joe was, (how shall i say it?), "criticized" by the Internets' forerunner for goin' to view time trials of the southern 500................take it 2 a new level today & imagine if mike lived n south carolina & went 2 coast to hunt for doubloons.

I'm sorry if I hurt you there but I'm to the point and sometimes abrasive. Now, I agree wholeheartedly that Mike would be in pirate heaven here. What with the history in piracy from the Outer Banks to the Keys of Florida.

Surely there is a dabo clone somewhere. Maybe he is an assistant at Klemzun.
As much as I hate that guy, it pains to admit that maybe he does have it figured out. Instead of hiring a great offensive mind or a great defensive mind as a head coach and risk deficiencies on the other side of the ball, I'm thinking a CEO/administrator type is the way to go. But that means being committed to finding the best OCs and DCs money can buy and paying them ridiculous sums to stay with your program. Ideally, it would mean something like paying Muschamp and Leach about $2million each to be coordinators. The head coach would recruit and act in an administrative capacity, but be very hands-off with the actual offensive and defensive play calling and schemes.

To be fair it’s tough to say “Leach has never recruited well.” Everything is relative. Most kids in Texas don’t dream of going to Texas Tech. Texas, Texas A & M, Oklahoma, LSU & others usually get the best. He has competed despite clear disadvantages.

The same is true of Washington State. That place is a football graveyard minus a few Drew Bledsoe and dare I say the “Ryan Leaf” Years. Most west coast kids dream of playing for USC, Oregon, Washington. Heck Boise State probably has more recruiting power than Washington State....yet there is the Pirate in the top 10 yet again.

He would be a great coach at South Carolina. I wished we would have went after him. Having said that I am fully supportive of Will Muschamp. He’s done a pretty good job thus far. He’s beaten most of the teams we should beat (minus Kentucky) but needs to start beating some top 25 teams if we ever hope to get there and stay there.

Leach would be fun in the SEC. He would certainly upset a lot of teams. But he would never win it. His high risk style of offense can overcome better teams, but it can't consistently win.

there is...his name is Shawn Elliott. But I have always thought Mike Leach would be a great fit at SC. He has the mystique of Joe Morrison and pirates always wear black

We can't win at the level we want to win - or do it year in and year out - with less talent. If we've given up on being in the conversation for Atlanta, then the gimmick approach is as good as any. It's not good enough for me.

That was hilarious! This man is easily the most entertaining coach in all of sports and one hell of an offensive mind.

Agree. Leach is as close to a Spurrier type coach as there is out there right now, I think. Hell, if Muschamp doesn't work out down the road and Leach is still coaching, I'd love to see him at USC.
