-- South Carolina has three known offers out to junior college offensive linemen at this point. The most highly recruited of the bunch so far is Brooklyn (N.Y.) ASA College OT Charles Baldwin, who has collected a ton of offers already including one from South Carolina. Baldwin currently has Alabama and Oklahoma out front, but has South Carolina in a group of schools that he's interested in but that are currently behind those two.

The lone visit Baldwin has set up at this point is a trip to Alabama for the Crimson Tide's spring game, though he wants to take visits to a number of schools including South Carolina. Baldwin is being recruited by quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus and the two have developed a good relationship so far. Baldwin says Mangus is one of his favorite coaches and that he's one of the coaches who has stayed in contact the most. Baldwin also says Mangus told him there's an opportunity to come in and play right away. Baldwin hopes to make a decision before the season but doesn't know if he'll be able to. He projects to be a January enrollee at the school of his choice.

-- Mangus also has South Carolina in the game for Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic five-star DT Rashan Gary who tells Rivals that he's planning to visit South Carolina, Clemson and Georgia during his spring break. Mangus has been on Gary, who is ranked as the top defensive tackle in the country, for some time. Gary has an uncle in the state that lives about 15 minutes from Clemson.

-- Lexington (S.C.) River Bluff athlete Brandon Tillmon visited South Carolina for the Gamecocks junior day late last month and while he's still waiting on his first offer he's hearing from schools like Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and Georgia State. Tillmon, who stars at quarterback for River Bluff, is being recruited by Carolina to play outside linebacker. The triple option schools, Georgia Tech and Georgia State, are talking to him about playing quarterback. He's a local kid worth keeping an eye on, obviously, and grew up a Carolina fan.

Now, a couple of random team notes...

-- Look for running back Shon Carson to get some reps in the slot this spring. Obviously, South Carolina has some holes to fill at wide receiver and the coaches like the idea of giving Carson a shot there. I had heard this was a strong possibility elsewhere, and USC actually confirmed it on its official website.

-- South Carolina also confirmed on its website that Cody Waldrop should be able to go through spring practice while Brandon Shell and Mike Matulis project to be held out.

-- South Carolina has also confirmed the hire of former graduate assistant Brian Turk as an additional offensive quality control coach. As we mentioned previously, Turk is someone who was very likely to get the job and who we've heard nothing but positive things about from people around the program.
