When Brownell gets the sack, does C-A&M go after Greg Marshall?

They don't have the cash (or at least won't want to spend what it takes to get him). He'll get well over $3M/year at his next stop.

He signed a new 6 year contract just 10 months ago. It's one of those big, head scratcher, Dabo-esqe deals that has a big buyout on Clempson's end but a small to average buyout for Brownell. He would have to go about 5-25 next year to get fired. He's got a $5 million buyout for 1 more year, then it drops to $3.5 million.

Brownell's 6 year extension

I don't get why they gave him that extension at all. I understand dabo because he's winning & has that program rolling.

Brownell is not the coach they need to be successful in that conference because he can't recruit well enough in that conference. Out of all the top prospects in south carolina how many of them they had a real chance at landing? They were in Mack & Doziers top 5 but everyone knew they weren't going to Clemson. They need to cut their losses now & throw everything at shaka smart or someone who can recruit acc basketball players.

Clemson is one of the five worst basketball jobs out there for the same reason that it is one of the best football jobs: they are a football school in a basketball conference.

True, and he basically has clem as a consistent middle-of-the-road ACC team (with the potential for the occasional spike). What else can you expect from their program?

I think Clemson would be nuts to fire Brownell. Who better can they get to replace him? Given the task he is facing, it is my opinion that Brownell is doing an pretty dang good job at Moo U.

In regards to Marshall, it is more likely that he would have interest in the Georgia Tech job more so than the Clemson job. Although doubtful GT can afford him. They would be paying three coaches. I do expect Marshall will someday retrun the the area.

Even if they tried to go after Marshall, I really don't see Marshall considering them. He would always play second fiddle to football and he's too good of a coach to justify going to a football school. If he didn't go to NC State, he surely isn't going to Clemson.

They should, but they won't. Their idiot AD did the extension with Brownell. All Brownell has done is taken a program that went to the NCAA four years in a row, to where this year he didn't even qualify for NIT. Amazing to listen to the callers on CCP talking about how Frank ought to be fired, even though he inherited a dumpster fire, yet make excuses for Brownell. They seriously think he is a genius. Most seem to go so far as thinking that he should have three or four more years before he is really judged so he can recruit to the new arena. Somehow this guy gets a lifetime pass. I doubt Marshall would leave. He has it made. Getting paid as good as he would at a Clemson. Has his program rolling. And with that JV schedule, almost guaranteed 25 wins a year. Sometimes a job in a better league isn't as great as one thinks. Most of all, I hope he would go to Clemson if it came open. They would surely be a problem under him.

Yep. He's a good coach and I actually like the guy... which is really something because I can't STAND Dabo or Leggett. I think they hit their glass ceiling last year though.

Holy smokes, that crowd up at tillman tech just get stupid when it comes to writing contracts!!

GM has a good thing going at WSU. They don't play football, so basketball is king there. They have or have the potential to become the Gonzaga of the mid-west. Remember when practically nobody knew who Gonzaga was? IU would be an interesting step for him, but anyone going to IU better have really thick skin, and win. You can also bet that WSU would throw everything they could muster to keep him. I hope he doesn't wind up at Clemson or IU. I would hate to see him be successful anywhere else but SC, knowing we could have had him once upon a time.
