With South Carolina's season opener set for Saturday night, the Gamecock staff will hit the road for the first time in a long time to scout some prospects in person.

Justin Stepp was in Texas last night checking out WR commitment Landon Samson in action against Rockwall-Heath, which features DB pledge Peyton Williams. Samson's Southlake Carroll squad rallied late to win, blocking a potential game-winning field at the end of the game to seal a win. Samson had 8 catches for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Erik Kimrey was originally slated to go check out 2023 QB target Dylan Lonergan in action tonight against Walton (which features Gamecock OL commitment Cason Henry), but that game has been cancelled because of a COVID outbreak at Brookwood.

Montario Hardesty will be at the Hammond game tonight locally to watch 2022 RB CJ Stokes, a Michigan commitment, in action.

Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey will scout one of his 2022 targets, DT Demetrius Watson, as Fort Dorchester takes on Dorman. The latter holds another Carolina target, 2023 OL Markee Anderson.

Assistant Mike Peterson will be in North Carolina checking out 2022 edge target James Pearce. Daylan Smothers, a 2023 RB, is another Gamecock target that plays on the same team, so Peterson will get an in-person look at him, too.
