My opinion - we are splitting hairs. Don't get me wrong - as a Gamecock, I want us to win in all programs, but relying on these sporta to carry the weight is flat out embarrassing. Our football team has had some recent success, and I hope that continues. But if it doesn't, the joke's sort of on us. We can't ride on the coattails of 2 baseball championships and a great equestrian team - LOL. It's time to sh** or get off the pot.

Who is us?

I know it's Friday but I think you;re way ahead of most of "us".

If you're a USC "FAN" you pull for all the sports programs...whether they're winning or not.

And if they're not winning and it embarrasses you...maybe you outta find something else that interest you to spend time and money on.

1) you can't judge my loyalty and devotion as a fan. You have no clue who I am.

2) I am in full support of our athletic program.

3) I just think we deserve more. When we have to boast about a baseball title and a women's F4 and not much else, it's slim pickings.

BTW - I don't care that the baseball team is losing as much as others. People get too emotional...

I'm not judging your loyalty or fanhood. It appears to me that you been spending time on rivals message boards and they're getting to you. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time!

I ragged the taters when they were raving about winning the NC in rowing. Hell, I never knew there was a rowing competition in the NCAA until then. But trust me, if the taters won a NC in booger picking it would all over their boards...with pride.

Sorry if I came across as an a-hole, but there's nothing wrong with cheering for all of USC's sports. If a non-revenue generating sport wins a NC it doesn't mean the USC is boosting it as the face of the program. It just means that another sport is succeeding...which is a good reflection of our overall AD.

BTW...I'm catching up...if you are drinking.

Pretty close, but I think WBB is more prestigious. It seems to be on ESPN and ESPN2 more often. Baseball is basically only the CWS on the top two ESPN channels.

FWIW - I find myself reading these boards less - not more. I remember in th early 00s that this was a great source of knowledge for everything Gamecock. Times have changed, but that's besides the point. I guess I just feel like we deserve more as fans, and I see promise in some places but it is outweighs by concern and loss of momentum.

Seriously and with all respect: If your first reaction to our women's basketball team making the Final 4 is to feel embarrassed because it's happening in the "wrong sport" ... then it might be time to find a new source of entertainment.

Women's basketball is our only dominate sport and Staley should be the highest paid coach at the university. Dawn Staley is winning and adding championships while the rest of the coaches fail miserably.

Your question is tongue in cheek I hope......no question our ladies basketball even though it is a women's sport (sorry ladies). The baseball team is mediocre at very best today.

A "program" is only as good as it shows year-in and year-out, and our baseball team has not shown anything that builds "prestige" this year, nor last, or the one before. So it literally has no "prestige" at this stage. Those NC banners are in the rear-view mirror and getting out of the nest great team's minds quickly. Seniors in HS today were 13 years old in 2011.

Think about this.....a football team that was Top 10 3 years in a row dropped out of graces in the national picture in just one season.....it didn't help that in all 3 of our "glory years" that we didn't get to play a BCS type bowl game and were relegated to second tier bowls due to the SEC.

Baseball team and "prestige" don't belong in the same breath any more....

Ok you don't care that the baseball team is losing as much as others? Our best sport in history is becoming an embarrassment. I guess you're pulling for uconn too.

So...your saying that 3 consecutive 11 wins seasons is diminished because we are fortunate enough to play in the best...and most profitable...conference but unfortunately didn't earn a chance to play in a broken BCS bowl system that rewarded teams that play in shitty conferences?

My advice to you...quit reading the tater boards. And I'm giving you the benefit of doubt here...

I agree; nationally, more people seem to follow WBB than college baseball. WBB is also the premiere women's sport.

Funny how people twist your words. I never said I am embarrassed that the women's team is good. I said it's embarrassing that we have to boast about our success in second tier sports because we can't win championships in the biggest ones.

If we were to win the title in women's basketball, my opinion is that it would be our biggest achievement by far as a program. No one really cares about college baseball. By no one, I generally mean the average sports fan who is going to recognize a university for its sports achievements.

Everyone seems to have their panties in a wad over our baseball team. I would love to see them be successful. But I'd be okay with it imploding if our football and/or men's basketball teams were competing for championships instead.

You are preaching to choir. You don't think what Gamecocks fans want the most is a championship in football? We have ACC championships in football and basketball. We have a Heisman winner. We play and have been competitive in the toughest football conference in country. We've won 4 straight Bowl games. We're putting people in the NFL and some of them are first rounders. I think we are holding our own well enough to celebrate some success in other sports without it being "an embarrassment." Some other schools would love to be us. If your idea of the "average fan" doesn't care about WBB or Baseball or any other sport, than I doubt that person cares how much any team's fans care about that sport.
