Who is the most hated past carolina Coach?

I can honestly say I don't hate any of those coaches. It just proves in order to win at South Carolina you have to have experienced head coach with name recognition. But the most disappointing coach has to be Darin Horn. He was gift wrapped Devan Downey, Dominque Archie, Zam jr., Mike Holmes and Sam Muldrow. He couldn't build on recruiting with that starting 5.
Yes.

All are worthy candidates. Newton was just in over his head, he really did nothing to make me feel any I'll will. Fat Brad was in over his head also. He sat up in the box at FSU and whatever play was called worked with those players. Th at wasn't the case at USC. And the reason most of us hate him as we do is because he went directly to Clemson. But for some reason Darrin Horn put me over the top the most. Mayne it was the arrogant attitude he kept as he drove a marginal program to begin with into the ground. Or maybe it was just as simple as the stupid haircut he used to wear.

Brad Scott. Apparently all of you have forgotten how he managed to get a spy to steal our game plan and get us beat 63-17. He and his dipstick son have done nothing but bad mouth us for the past 16 years.

Darrin Horn is a turd.

Fig Newton was an idiot.

The fact that it was at Climpson I guess makes everybody hate him. What would YOU do if you were fired, needed a job, and a friend calls to say, "hey I have a job for you here at a rival company." Would you take it?? Yes you would.

um, then you weren't paying attention. Scott got his big break to coach in the sec and created an absolute train wreck. After to heading Pickens, he then drove his state owned car to the interstate and abandoned it. While at Clemson, he trashed the university, saying no one could win here and that the school was run by racists. He rode on the shoulders of the Clemson players after beating the players he recruited. He got our friggin playbook for one of our grad assistants (who was promptly fired). We gave that bum a shot, which he blew, then resented us for firing him for going 1-10? Ugh.

Stalin's "re-education camps" killed roughly 10X the people Hitler's gas chambers did.

I don't care about the SAT thingy. My real beef was that he stopped us from bringing beer and liquor in the stadium.

Spartanspur, I have said your exact same words many times. I will never forget him riding the shoulders of the Clemson players out on the field after they beat us. I agree with you, I had no problem with him going to work, that is what a man does.

I'm glad we left the ACC and that's not why the b-ball team got worse. McGuire was aging and his right hand man (I'm getting old-his name is slipping away from me) died. The 1st year out of the ACC we had the #1 recruiting class in the country. We cheered "GROD" at the football games.
You're thinking of Buck Freeman. The first year or two post-ACC we were living off of residuals in basketball. I do not think Freeman's death affected the program one way or another.

I remember in jr. high & high school watching exciting ACC games on TV (think N.C. State's 1974 national title run) while USC was playing a few big names from around the country, but mostly the likes of Biscayne, Fredonia State, West Virginia Tech, and Auburn-Montgomery. Most blue-chip recruits noticed this too, and passed on USC. Keep in mind that Roche and Owens signed with USC because we were in the ACC.

Dietzel, head football coach & AD, pushed hardest for secession. Football was affected least - most ACC schools continued to schedule us in football. I believe McGuire was opposed to secession, and unfortunately, the basketball program was hardest hit by the move. Methinks also that Pepsodent Paul was jealous of McGuire's success and did not want USC to become a "hoops first" school under his watch.

I think McGuire would have eventually turned the reigns over to his young assistant Don Walsh in a perfect world. Politics intervened. Don saw the writing on the wall and left.

Sparky was the best we could get at the time he was hired. Nobody else even wanted the job (I don't think). There was a lot of bad stuff left after the Joe Mo era. He cleaned things up, but just didn't win enough games. He had a lot to overcome. No reason to hate him. Scott had a whole lot better situation coming in than Sparky.

Brad Scott, and not just because he lost a lot of games, and was very unsuccessful, that can happen, we were not the program we are today, but because of what a classless jerk he was

The first "Jerk story" that got around a bunch and started and continued when he first arrive, when he went to fastfood which was quite often, he would always give them at the drive through window the stinky trash of his previous meal, and always was a competitor bags, if at the McDonalds, it was Burger King etc.

Then of course going to Clemson which in itself was not the issue, we fired him, but being a position coach and allowing yourself to get carried off the field against a team you were basically responsible for putting together and in front of fans you made a bunch of lies to and did not deliver, after that you know the guy was a classless jerk of the 1000th kind.

Just what I was thinking. It would be a more interesting thread if he'd said 'Other than BS who was the most hated coach at USC'.

You guys sound like women. He got fired and took the best job available. All that other stuff is speculation. I was at the 63-17 debacle and there was only one thing that caused it...our DB's didn't even want to play that day. Climpson had at least 3 wide open receivers running free on every pass play. The fact that his players put him up on their shoulders was impressive for one thing and probably not his idea for another. There were some bad coaches as there have been in EVERY program, but the reasons fans hate them usually doesn't make much sense.

Definitely Scott. He gave our program the scorched earth treatment before turning tater, then allowed himself to be carried off the field by more taters after defeating us.

I can actually visualize this!

Turning down bowl bids in '89 and '90 tanked the Sparky Woods era from the start. I wonder how many times other schools brought that up against us during recruiting? We turned down back to back bowl bids his first 2 years and then joined the SEC. Our facilities sucked and we had no money at the time. From top to bottom, we weren't prepared to join the SEC, especially in football. Sparky was just a small piece of that puzzle.

King Dixon. Although a former player, he's the 2nd most hated AD in my book.
