Why is the "neutral" baseball game vs Clemson in Greenville yet again?

Re: Yeah and that's probably why the taters came up with this

I would also think that the "Joe" doesn't need the extra games as much as Fluor field does.. They already have The Citadel playing all their home games along with the River Dogs.. Plus working around the Citadel schedule.

Go Gamecocks..

Yes Greenville......it allows Gamecock fans from Western NC, Northeast Ga, and East Tennessee a chance to see a game.....Remember folks there are Gamecocks north of the SC border who love the Greenville location.....this is why you have the game there...it's too hard for us Gamecock fans north of,the border to make the trip to Columbia to watch a game.........

While the geography works for you (and I'm glad it does), I agree with Batgirl that the neutral site game is in Greenville because the group there submitted the "best bid," of which geography may play a role.

As I've stated elsewhere, I wish USC would schedule Ga Tech in the regular season on a home and home basis on occasion - that geography would work for me

. If nothing else, schedule a couple of games with the Jackets in Augusta, or North Augusta if that stadium ever gets built, just to have a different non-mid-major, non-Clemron, non-SEC opponent on the schedule.

Re: Yeah and that's probably why the taters came up with this

Gulfcoastcock, seem to recall Ray Tanner had a lot to with the way the series is set up now. We never played them a home and away series. Up until 2010 we played Clemson on a Saturday and Sunday, with one game at each teams park. Then there were two more games played usually on a Wednesday, one at each teams park. Tanner said one time, I believe it was Trey Dyson came up and told him he was going to pitch against Clemson on a Wednesday like it or not. So Tanner and Leggett came up with the current format so the weekend pitchers could be used, not a midweek starter.

I like the fact that we currently play a 3-game series on a weekend (F,S,S). In doing so, Greenville is the only logistical alternative. These guys have to play the games, and travel on the same nights. Now if the neutral game were played another time, then other venues like Charleston, would become more attractive. Personally, I like the current schedule of 3 games on 3 successive days/nights.

As far as comparing Fluor Field to The Joe, Fluor Field, the stadium, the area surrounding the stadium, and downtown Greenville attractions within easy walking distance make Greenville a much nicer alternative by any way you want to measure it.

I seemed to recall that the decision for the proposals was a vote of the AD w/ the $ being the tiebreaker. Greenville didn't have the highest bid (I think it was MB) but Ray and the Clemson dude both wanted Greenville.

Screw the damn bid! This is about the fans of both teams having the opportunity to see their team play. Two games in the upstate and one in the midlands is not a fair opportunity. The third game should be in Charleston or MB. I think you people are just jealous, that Charleston is the number one destination in this state. I guess you need to get back at us...Some how?

I think the Charleston game of a few years ago was played on a Friday. Saturday in Cola, & Sunday in Clemron.

Wow...I've never been jealous of a city myself...I chose the mountains for the lifestyle...Charleston is a destination for a few days and maybe number one for vacationing.....but to live, Greenville would be the better choice...better career opportunities and proximity to all things hiking and mountains.....Jealousy sounds like it's coming from you my friend.....Go Cocks!!!

"keep it in Greenville"

Well....Keep telling yourself that! Greenville couldn't carry Charleston's jockstrap....in any respect. Not jealous of Greenville or any other place in this state....and you're not my friend!

As Charleston born, I consider people from Mt. Pleasant to be Charlestonians.

Playing the second game in Charleston requires the taters to drive an extra 4 hours. If you remember Leggett's team was almost late arriving in Columbia for the third game the year they did play in Charleston.

The game in Columbia was the 2nd game. We played in Charleston Friday night, Columbia Saturday, and Clemsux on Sunday.

As long as Leggett's around, and he might not be much longer, they'll never play that neutral game anywhere but Greenville. He had a fit a few years ago over the logistics of it all. Think it was after the year Clemson was late getting to Columbia. He hates having his team stay in hotels basically all series when the Sunday game is in Clemson.
Leggett arrived late by his own doing. He took his time leaving Charleston Saturday morning b/c it was pouring down rain and he was "certain" the game would be delayed and/or cancelled.

I didn't go to the game in Charleston and have never been to the Joe, but I can tell you that Greenville does a first class job. It may be geographically closer to Clemson than Columbia but you'd never know it from the turnout. I'd even say last year that it was closer to 60/40 in favor of Carolina. If it's fine with Tanner and Holbrook then it's fine with me.

My guess is that the policy will likely be if the neutral site game is Greenville, then the Greenville game will be on Saturday. If Charleston or Myrtle Beach, then the neutral site game will be on either a Friday or Sunday, the Columbia game will be on Saturday, and the Clemson game will be on Friday or Sunday (whichever day the neutral site game isn't).

If North Augusta ever builds their stadium and hosts, my guess is that The Clemson game will be on either a Friday or Sunday, and Cola/NA will be the other two days - order probably not important.

The key, IMO is to keep the teams moving from city to city while minimizing backtracking.

Fluor Field is an awesome place to play. We have a lot of Carolina fans up here too. I enjoy attending every year! Great stadium for fans.

Fine with me too. I'll be there while the cry babies stay home. If the game moves to Charleston or MB or wherever in the future so be it. But for now it is in Greenville in a location that needs Gamecock fans. Good exposure for us as we usually win.

Only because they stopped for ice cream.

I don't keep up with that sort of stuff but my guess is the setup and field in West Greenville is like a championship game o a degree and if you haven't been here it should be on every Gamecock Bucketlist. Great fun even if you don care for baseball and they close the street off as well as having Liberty and a couple of other joints open. I'll be there tomorrow at 11 for the party and then head on back home
IT IS TRULY NEUTRAL as the tickets are split and it's a short ride up the interstate....as well as all being collegial
