Y'all hear what Stefon Diggs just told five Patriots fans after catching a TD pass?

So what I am reading from you guys is that you enjoy watching people fail? I have never gotten the people that don't like a sport in its entirety. You either like football or not. You either like Basketball or not and so on. Just my two cents on it. I think people tend to focus on things outside of the game and get wrapped up in disliking something due to something that is not related to the game at all. I, also, think a little of it is wrapped in jealousy that a guy can go out and make a living better than most playing a kid's game. There are things that the college game provides in atmosphere that the pro game does not. Bands, students, pagentry. I get those things with the college game. However, if you enjoy the gameplay of a mediocre college team getting their brains constantly beat in over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Golden State Warriors, then I think you have issues outside of being a spectator of sports.

I agree with others on this particular topic. I prefer amateur sports for the most part because they aren't as good.

I would rather watch a high school basketball game over the NBA any day. Same with football really. I like the pga but tbh I like watching guys play on YouTube just as much.

I can appreciate the skill level of the pros but I just don't enjoy Watchung it as much.

Or maybe we enjoy something much different from the sports than you do. It's entirely possible that I enjoy different aspects of the game. I don't like pro basketball for the same reason I don't like pro football. I understand why people like it, it just never appealed to me. I liked pro football when I was a teenager, then I grew up and my tastes refined. You think that means there's something wrong with me in my life? Sure thing, man. Let's first assume there is something wrong with the way I enjoy sports (there isn't, it's my personal enjoyment), and then extrapolate that out to say there must be something wrong with my life in general.

You must be great at parties! "If you don't like this party for the reasons I do, your life is a broken mess!"

I enjoy watching Clemson fail.

You wrote a lot and all I get out of it is just you enjoy watching people fail and that is okay. Just say so. These type of discussions always amuse me because people never can really explain why they prefer the amateur version over the professional version or vice versa. They just do. It is almost like they are hiding something and its cute watching people twist in circles explaining something but really not giving you anything. It's like listening to a politician talk.

I dislike the game play of the NFL and NBA and the rule adjustments for TV. I could say you don’t understand the complexity of football so you just watch the dumb down NFL game. The NFL game restricts coaching and strategy adjustments and relies on players adjustments. Now that is not meant as a real assessment of your football viewing levels but you get that anyone can flip this all around to suit their viewpoint.

I’ve always preferred college sports because they care more than pro and the atmospheres are better. It isn’t about failure. NBA regular season is a waste of time, might as well go watch an old man open gym. 162 pro baseball games, they sit out games constantly and don’t care half the time.

I can appreciate that. You gave a real reason why you prefer the amateur game. Most people don't do that. They go around in circles and their reasoning makes you wonder what the real reason is. Maybe you are just better at explaining. It is sort of like me with College Basketball. I don't like how the amateur game is officiated. It's like they give participation awards for trying. Anytime you run to a spot and fall down, it's a charge when it was obvious that you were still moving. Nonetheless, I still watch the college version of the sport. I just complain about it when I am watching. Officiating is not a big enough motivator to totally turn off on a sport.

Wouldn't the reason for that be that there are less games than the professional version for obvious reasons? The professional version tests your will far greater because you have to constantly get up for games and sometimes it's not going to be there on the 3rd game in 4 nights.

I dislike much of basketball officiating and that’s pretty much at any level. I’ve always hated how foul calls outside the arc aren’t the same inside the lane. That goes both for O and D. A lot if the poor fundamentals and lax walking, etc has found its way into lower levels and that’s annoying too. I miss the 90’s basketball style where it was physical, athletic, but still exciting and fundamental.

But you can also win like 55% of your games and get in the playoffs where as in most college sports you’ve got to win 75% of your games to get in. I get it’s strategic move to rest their guys but it just isn’t the same. I may be bias or spoiled from growing up in Va and watching Ripken break the Ironman streak.

All eras have their issues. There were a lot of unskilled brutes in 90s basketball that were doing a lot of fouling unchecked. People like to glorify the Knicks/Bulls rivalry. However, the only guy that could actually play basketball on the Knicks was Patrick Ewing and John Starks a little bit. Everone else was a brute that hustled and played hard. Hand checking is a foul. Elbowing a guy just for crossing through the lane is a foul. What I have found is that the better teams always dictate how the game is played. In the 80's and part of the 90's, you had big front lines on the good teams and physical play is what went back then. Now, a big physical team gets their brains beat in buy skilled teams that shoot 3 pointers. After Steph Curry and his group retires, you will probably see something different depending on who the best guys are.

I just think in any team sport defense should be a major part of the game, I see that in the college game, but it’s virtually nonexistent in the nba! Tell me the last mlb or nfl team that won a championship that didn’t have a great defense?

I don’t like basketball, hockey and soccer. Those sports are boring to me

The older I get, the more I prefer the NFL over college. As far as the trash talking to the fans, the TV coverage is so good now you can hear everything. Justin Thomas got caught mumbling to himself after he missed a putt. This stuff has been going on for years. We can just hear it now.

I like the hockey. Fast action. I do not like the NBA. Every time scoring goes down, they change the rules to help scorers. Now, since you rarely can get a charge called, defenders just get out of the way so the star can dunk it. That’s what ESPN wants to show. Offensively, dunks and 3 pointers are the rule. You’ll rarely see an off-ball screen leading to a good cut, pass and layup. That don’t make ESPN. Defensively, the blocked shot is what the league wants and no other defense is exciting. The game is not catered toward a basketball purist but instead to the fan looking for entertainment. College is more team play and fundamentals, the NBA is geared toward entertainment. And now they are leaning toward adding politics. That never ends up well for the game. Politics is so messed up it doesn’t matter to that side of the argument. But it all trickles down and eventually damages the entire game.

He caught a TD pass in the back of the end zone, then pointed at five different Patriots fans and said "You...you...you...you...you...suck my f'ing d***!" It was very clear on the tv.
Well, in Diggs's defense, he was speaking to Pats fans in a language they understand. Noone here has been to Boston?

I would disagree on that. One of the reasons Golden State wins in the NBA is due to their defense. People get wrapped into Steph Curry and the 3 pointers, but Klay Thompson and Draymond Green really defend. The reason the Lakers are losing right now, and they are my team, is that they went for the shiny offensive stars and don't defend. The Suns and the Warriors defend and are beating teams like the Lakers up right now.

For me it has a lot more to do with the pageantry of the college game versus the pro game. I also grew up with a dad who didn’t care much for pro ball, but our whole day Saturday was watching college ball. It’s just a preference.

I see we have different philosophies on the game because the reason I prefer the professional game is that they call charging too much in the college game. All you have to do is be somewhat in the semblance of legal guarding position and fall down to get a charge in college. In the pros, you must be in legal guarding position and take it in the chest. None of that falling down before the guy gets there. You need to watch some of the good teams in the NBA. All Steph Curry does is set off-ball screens and run around off of them. That is why he is open so often. Now, you are right that lay-ups and 3 pointers are the rule, but that started in college. Rick Pitino gets mad at you for taking long twos and he has been doing that to his college guys since the mid-90s. Blame that on the analytic revolution that says the 3 pointers and lay-ups are the best shots to take. A lot of college teams and even high school teams live by that now.

Is that why you ignored my post? Because I clearly explained why I liked amateur sports better.

I really can't argue the nba with you because I rarely watch it, but the charging calls in college are plentiful whether you get the call or not, I'm not sure multimillionaires are willing to risk injury for a change of possession and a foul, it's just not worth the risk!

Yes. It was a clear explanation that is understandable. All this stuff about fundamentals I am skeptical about. Since when has a South Carolina football or basketball team been fundamentally sounds on both ends or both sides of the ball? Yet I am sure all of us on here watch them. So, I see that as making up excuses based on talking points that have been thrown around.

Jesus Christ, look at all these snowflakes.

you’ll watch shitty college football but not awesome pro ball? You boys are weak minded. But some people just love to be victims and be offended. It’s a weird mindset to have but such is the state of America.
not a damn thing wrong with preferring amateur sports but sadly college ball is getting away from that. something about knowing they are paid millions to play a game, but to each their own, you should remember that
