Saw a few already entered. Thought we could have a thread to list and discuss incoming and outgoing players. I remember last year felt like a nightmare but ended up working out for us.
It it all comes down to the money for top shelf Portal -itesI have a good feeling about Shane's portal dealings.

Reminds me of the Moneyball movie trait: “He gets on base.”Love this recent quote from Bears interim Thomas Brown and it applies here. He said he wanted his team to embody three “abilities: coachability, accountability and dependability. Beamer seems to have a knack for going after the right guys, we need to trust him!
Worked out very well indeed.Saw a few already entered. Thought we could have a thread to list and discuss incoming and outgoing players. I remember last year felt like a nightmare but ended up working out for us.
True. I’m thinking that if we’re selected for the playoffs we’ll have less portal losses because Shane has been known to not play portal entries in Bowl games regardless of how good they are.Love this recent quote from Bears interim Thomas Brown and it applies here. TrueI disagree. I think it comea down to finding good players from lesser teams and building from there.
We cant compete for top shelf.
For 2 of the 3 years, the Portal has been great for us.
I get it, about the "money". Supposedly, I have heard that we have more money than some think. But, when you think about it, we have not been great in the recruiting game, ever. We have had moments. Over the past 40-50 years, we have pretty much landed in the same spot in recruiting rankings every year. For schools like ours, it comes down to "filling your needs". You don't have to "fill your needs" with the best of the best. Just fill your needs with quality players, not trash.
I'm not worried about it or thinking about it.
I'm enjoying the moment and I am going to enjoy the bowl season.
Me and members of my family (all Carolina fans) are on a group text and one of them said that he got that over at On3 from the publishers write-up there (not a random poster). Did I read that there? No. Did I look for it? No, because it wasn't important enough for my time. I never said I "read" it there. Said I "heard". And I used the word "supposedly".Stock - Love ya but a couple of things here:
1) Where have you heard we have more money that some think? Can't just say stuff like that without the receipts.
2) We have clearly dropped in the overall recruiting rankings since the inception of the NIL while other teams like Oregon, etc. have leap frogged some of the blue bloods. The owner of NIKE was serious he said he wanted a championship at any cost.

As far as recruiting rankings, where we have lagged in high school recruiting, we have made up for it in the Portal.

Agreed. This past year has made me realize we should be more than fine with ability to buy recruits and transfers to make a competitive team.
Not championship caliber, as that will be the first retort.
But our NIL put this team together through recruiting and transfers. If this is possible, we'll be more than okay in that regard.
It is speculation because we have never seen numbers. The reason I asked is because I've heard just the opposite from a friend whose Dad is on the board.
All speculation though regardless.
Once we stop bleeding talent and start pulling in skill player studs on any consistent basis, I would assume that would be a good sign the tide has turned.
The portal is the poor man's auction house that we've had some good fortune in thus far.
Credit the staff for their selections and ability to fit a player into the system on a dime for that given season.
However, just like everything else, the heavy hands are obviously noting any success stories coming out of the portal and that window of opportunity is bound to be limited over time.
Hopefully our University and their bloated endowment fund will step up in 2025 to fund some chess pieces around Sellers if the fans can cobble enough together this year to hang onto him and a few others.

The Portal has paid off for us, finishing 3rd in the nation in its first year and 11th this past year. Beamer and staff parlayed both into nationally-ranked seasons on the field. They have, indeed, done a great job through the Portal.
The Portal has changed college football. Teams now look different, personnel-wise, from one year to the next.
What monies we do have, hopefully the staff will continue to be BOTH efficient and effective with the resources.
Well, I won't take part in the guessing game. I will just wait to see the results. Hopefully the results through the Portal will be like they were in Years One and Three. Hopefully, one day, we will see actual NIL numbers. No, but we do have plenty of evidence to make an educated guess on the situation:
+ Lack of NIL announcements at the high school level
+ Best players leaving for places like Oregon, USC-W, Memphis, etc. to get NIL deals
+ Rank Sliding on Signing Day
The portal is a refuge for teams without big funding on the front end. It's very obvious.
One would have to believe there will be heightened interest from the NIL players in terms of high school versus portal ROI...as arbitrage windows do not remain open very long in an efficient market.

You still have to pay to get players through the Portal. And certainly Kennard and Rocket were big contributors to our success this season. I am anxiously looking forward to seeing who we get through this year's Portal. I believe we will do well.
Like I said, I won't guess nor speculate. I will just wait to see who next comes through our doors. I have a hunch we will get some good ones.Ha. Guess was the wrong word there. It's very obvious.

And I used the word "supposedly". I did not use the word "definitively" as if I knew. I would think that is obvious.Yet you were speculating in the highest fashion and that's what kicked off this conservation in the first place.

OT: By the way Ward, FYI: I doubled my short in bitcoin last week (November 27).Yet you were speculating in the highest fashion and that's what kicked off this conservation in the first place.
