Have never understood why it’s called a bases clearing double when at the end, there is a guy standing on 2nd base. Shouldn’t a bases clearing double only occur when let’s say, they are thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple?

Because the situation when he came up to bat was the bases we loaded. Everyone of those runners were moved off of a base. The hitter was at the plate. He cleared every base that was occupied. It’s about the situation he has a hitter...not where he ended up. That’s covered by the “double” part.
