I put out all the on the court stuff on Lamont Paris yesterday.
Since then, I’ve reached out to connections at Wisconsin (where Paris was a long time assistant) and in the media world in Chattanooga. Here’s what I’ve gathered.
- Don’t expect Paris to “win the press conference”. In many ways he’s the opposite of Frank Martin. He’s soft spoken and cerebral and very very knowledgeable about offensive basketball, UTC had one of the slowest paces of play in the country while being one of the most efficient with their shot selection. He really emphasizes taking the best shot available
- On defense, he doesn’t run anything complex, but instead emphasizes effort defense
-Personality wise, everyone keeps emphasizing what a “good dude” he is. “Very well liked”
- I had multiple people from Wisconsin tell me they weren’t surprised he’s had success as a head coach
- From a media perspective, I’m told he’s open to talking about recruiting and his process a good bit, so that should make for some fun stories.
