Hey everyone, here's this week's analytics recap/PFF grades. We should get play data from SEC Stat Cat in the next day, so follow me on Twitter for some insight from those (@whelms21). As always, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

PFF Grades:

Offense
Xavier Legette: 59.4
Shi Smith: 63.2
Nick Muse: 46.0
Dylan Wonnum: 59.4
Sadarius Hutcherson: 65.4
Eric Douglas: 64.0
Jovaughn Gwyn: 56.5
Jakai Moore: 39.0
Josh Vann: 53.6
Collin Hill: 63.0
Kevin Harris: 76.5

Defense
Aaron Sterling: 70.6
Keir Thomas: 67.3
Jabari Ellis: 69.8
JJ Enagbare: 54.4
Ernest Jones: 69.4
Damani Staley: 58.3
Israel Mukuamu: 63.9
Jaycee Horn: 56.1
RJ Roderick: 35.8
John Dixon: 76.8
Jammie Robinson: 63.7

Thoughts:

— This game was proof that a bad game from one player has a far bigger impact than a great game from a player in the same position group. RJ Roderick put up the second-worst grade of his career (to be fair, he didn’t get a lot of help on Kadarius Toney and one touchdown was on a pick play the SEC head of officials immediately stated was a blown call). Though John Dixon had a coming out party of sorts with a near-elite 76.8 grade, it made minimal impact compared to the two touchdowns allowed by Roderick.

On the offensive side of the ball, four offensive linemen had excellent days against a ferocious Gator pass rush. Wonnum, Hutcherson, Douglas and Gwyn combined to allow only six pressures against a Gator team that had 28 against Ole Miss. Jakai Moore struggled in pass protection, however, allowing seven pressures in 47 pass blocking snaps.

— I’ll have more later this week, but I’m on board the John Dixon hype train:

SMALL SAMPLE SIZE WARNING: Here are some of Dixon's career numbers- 91 coverage snaps, 12 targets, five receptions allowed, 57 yards (.63 yards per coverage snap- borderline elite), two pass breakups, one touchdown allowed, one interception. The touchdown came in his first ever coverage snap against North Carolina a season ago. Since then, he's allowed 40 yards on 11 targets.

— Shi Smith is on pace to break not only Alshon Jeffery’s school record of 88 catches in a season but also to finish in the top three in conference history. In a 10-game season. The craziest part is he leads the conference in drops this year or he’d be on pace to break Amari Cooper’s record of 124 set in 2014.

— The defensive line is quietly putting together a great season. Even with a subpar game from the typically reliable JJ Enagbare, South Carolina’s defensive line generated 14 pressures on 34 passes. Not only that, but Tonka Hemingway and Jordan Burch look like stars.

SP+ Numbers

— Overall: 6.1 (44, -10), Offense: 26.6 (78, -2), Defense: 20.5 (25, -5), Special Teams -0.1 (47, -5)

— South Carolina is currently eighth in the conference in SP+ after closer-than-expected losses to No. 8 Florida and No. 22 Tennessee. The Gamecocks currently sit half a point behind Kentucky. If everything were to stand as it is, South Carolina would be heavily favored by SP+ against Missouri and Vanderbilt and slight underdogs against LSU and Texas A&M with Ole Miss and Kentucky being toss ups.
