App State shocks ATM

OK so many people say recruiting and stars mean everything.....how does app beat t am???

If you look at the stats for that game App State didn't just beat them they dominated them. ATM had less than 200 yards of total offense as opposed to a little over 300 for App State. The time of possession was 41minutes.. yes 41 minutes for App State to a little over 18 for ATM. This wasn't some fluke. App State took them behind the woodshed. The only thing close was the score.

App State!!!!!!! Giant killers! The funny thing, is that Ta&m was warned ahead of time and they still couldn’t stop it. that was the classic underdog Rocky Vs. Russian fight.

App ran the ball. They always have 3-4 good running backs. Their leading rusher didnt even play. And their top 4 receivers from last year graduated. And they still got the job done.

So how did a bunch of 2/3 stars beat a stable of 4/5 stars on the road?

Coaching, execution and playing hard on every down. Gameplan was to control the ball and the clock. 4/5 stars rely on talent. 2/3 star players rely on hard work and playing every down 100%. When you have enough players believing they can win, with hard work and sweat, upsets happen.

Had a coach tell me years ago it's harder to coach these 4/5 star players than the 2/3 star players. The top star players tended to be lazy and didn't hustle or play as hard on every down because they were pampered and never got pushed in high school. I saw this in the summer and one day camps. These prima donnas with 30+ offers show up and go thru the motions. The 2/3 stars that were looking for a scholly worked and hustled their asses off. These players had great work ethics.

I would take 11 Connor Shaws and Eric Norwoods ( 3 stars) over 11 Shane Rattlers and Jadeveon Clowneys any day.

First of all, who is Shane Rattler? It’s Spencer Rattler. Second, your team full of 3 stars would lose to the team full of 5 stars probably 80% of the time. So, I guess you like the occasional euphoria of the upset over actually winning. It seems you are basing it on the assumption that 5 stars don’t prepare or work hard. That is usually not the case.

App State has done something we have not been able to do…………. beat Texas a&m. ****ing bullCrap.

NO, I got it right. It's Shane Rattler. You think he came to Carolina for our storied football program and we are a feeder program for QBs to the NFL? Far as I know, I read where Beamer told Rattler we run a pro offense which would prepare him for the next level. Sounds more like he gave him the keys without earning his spot. Never heard Beamer say that Rattler had to earn the starting position.

Someone asked if recruiting and stars are everything, how did how did app st beat atm? My reply was for this one game. App St played hard and controlled the LOS on both sides of the ball as well as the clock. 2/3 Stars beat the 4/5 stars, they were prepared and wanted it. ATM lost to a better team today.

a team like App State wins when they play the best game of their season, and a team like A & M plays lackluster and overlooks their opponent.

They likely don't overlook a conference opponent and that's why we have never defeated them.

Banging on Spencer Rattler is ridiculous. No QB on our roster has done anything for Spencer Rattler to not come in and quickly be named the starter. We had a Grad transfer that couldn’t start at North Dakota State and a transfer from Saint Francis out there starting for goodness sakes. Rattler wasn’t our issue today. Our inability to tackle was the problem.

Their lineman come off the ball in attack mode. Before we hired Shawn Elliot I would post we should go get the App St oline coach. Spurrier did. I say we do it again after this season ends.

App St. plays with a ton of pride and desire to win. They always seem well coached too. Hard to believe our 3 - 4 stars with a few 5 stars mixed in couldn’t win and at least compete very well in almost every game with that mindset. I like Beamer’s positive attitude and he seems to be a good recruiter who will eventually change the culture. He’s supposed to be a CEO type of coach so he needs to cull out coaches that aren’t getting it done if things don’t get going the right direction as the season moves forward.

The Sun Belt shone brightly yesterday. 3 wins over so-called power conferences.
Sun Belt has been trouble to quite a few teams in the last 15 years

Louisiana Monroe beats Alabama (2007. Saban first or second year).
Troy beats Nebraska (2018)
Troy beats Louisiana State (2017)
Louisiana Lafayette over Iowa State (2020)
Arkansas State beats Kansas State (2020)
Appalachian State beats North Carolina (2019)
South Alabama beats Mississippi State (2016)
Coastal Carolina beats Brigham Young (2020)
Georgia State beats Tennessee (2019)

While A&M is talented and full of 5-star and high 4-star recruits, they don't play as a team. Just a bunch of NIL bought mercenaries. App State is a team.
I think A&M is fatally flawed at quarterback. Not a difference-maker in the clutch. I saw that QB from Marshall who came from Texas Tech play in person last week. He could improve all but maybe two or three teams in the country that already have excellent quarterbacks. He could certainly improve Florida and A&M. That boy can play.

Also add Old Dominion's win over Va Tech last week

Just watched the Marshall - ND highlights. Marshall DB Steven Gilmore had a pick six. He's from Rock Hill, pretty sure he is related to Stephon.

But there might have been other intrinsic reasons as well.

Like James Madison, Old Dominion, and Marshall - all just joining the Sun Belt this year. Great way for a program to introduce itself to a new conference. ODU and Marshall added value immediately.

In the past few years. App State has had quite few near misses, too. Lost at Tennessee in OT and at Penn State in OT and a few more they couldn’t close out.

I thought the NIL deals would make the rich richer. Maybe it’ll take a few years if it happens.
