Baseball program is in trouble...

I don't believe this team's inability to hit means the baseball program is in trouble. However, I do agree we may be in for a long year.

Recruiting may need adjusted for the next year to fix this problem.

I don't think I've said a negative thing about our baseball team since Calvi was here... but it's become painfully obvious that if we don't hire a hitting coach, we'll never be as good as we could be. I would think that if Ray wants to keep Holbrook around, he'd highly suggest it.

It's starts at the top, we are Carolina baseball, go take the best coach in the country and get us back to where we belong.

I never say anything bad about USC, but I have to wonder what is happening with baseball. We got 15 walks and lose the game? Ray needs to take a hard look at the program after this year.

As far as im concerned the lady gamecocks are still playing and we have a good shot to make the final four. Could care less about this underachieving baseball team until basketball season is over then I will support our baseball team and suffer through this already debacle of a season. Until then will I try not to lose sleep over it.

I'm just saying I'm not gonna lose sleep over our baseball program's current terrible season when I can focus on more positive things like watching my Lady Gamecocks contend for a national championship in basketball for a little bit longer.

I don't think the problem is lack of talent. The problem is lack of player.development.

Once again we blow a late lead and choke a game a way. That's 6 straight

losses to unranked teams. I was really excited about Holbrook as coach but either recruiting has fallen way off, the attitude has left the building, or he's just not the coach to get it done. Unfortunately, we kept Junes Raines way past prime so I don't see Tanner making any changes. Hell Tanner is all buddy buddy with Berson and our soccer program sucks so if he won't make a change their he might not be the kind that can make tough decisions. Oh well, the last six year in football and baseball were fun but........

I said it the day Ray made it official with Chad, we should have gone after Corbin at Vandy. Great recruiter and coach. He may not have accepted the job, but we should have at least offered it to him. Big mistake by Tanner.

I agree. Coaching can make hitters.

We all knew Tanner was gonna keep his buddy as the HC. I didn't like the Tanner promotion and still don't unless he starts to show some stones and puts his emotional feelings aside and does the right thing and cans his buddy if he can't get the job done.

Nah, we are fine. We are great. We are Omaha-bound, world beaters. (Just wanted to see what it felt like to have my head in the sand.)

Sorry, but you do NOT "learn to manage" at Carolina's expense. Holbrook should have "learned to manage" at a Division II school before he was given the reigns of what most in the nation considered an elite program. We were the best, and we deserved the best. Our baseball program is NOT a place for coaches to "learn to manage."

You cannot rebuild if you do not know how to coach....!!! Let him head to a Division II school and learn to coach, and then let him come back here and "rebuild."

I hope Ray will do something about it.
What exactly would you have Ray do? He's certainly not going to tarnish the early years of his legacy as AD by firing the man that he chose to replace him as head coach of his team. And he certainly didn't take the AD job with the idea of overseeing, maintaining and micromanaging the baseball program.

I'm sure sure RT is as disappointed as the rest of us. But I also believe he has a different perspective than most of us fans that post here on FGF.

LMAO, you admit being part of the "Fire Calvi" crowd...the pitching coach that helped Tanner win his 1st national championship...yet you expect anyone to respect your opinion about the current state of the program?

Sorry, but that's just too funny imo.

I'm pretty sure Ray knows what the problems with the program are, as his coach lets him know.

I would hope he has the balls to get rid of him before the baseball program is completely dismantled. That's his job as a.d.

DarkCock, you're right, 107.5 will be full of it on Monday. They'll blame the fans.

I can just hear it...."Hey Carolina fans, we all want to see this team succeed. We GET IT. But if you're choosing to not attend the games, shame on you. Again, we GET IT....blah blah blah.."

I have never heard of Gamecock Ambassadors in 40+ years of closely following the program. Who are they?

Beat me to it- I am curious too- what is a Gamecock Ambassador? IS it anything like a Holderman Clone?

I was. And proud of it. Because I hated to see pitcher after pitcher incur shoulder and elbow injuries. And I hated to see guys like Cisco having only one good year of production then falling by the wayside. Calvi couldn't hold Meyer's jock.

Whether you respect my opinion or not makes no difference. What we've been doing is not working. This problem has been long term.

The Gamecock Ambassadors have been around for many years. They are former USC lettermen who "work" the games and who help with various events. They were the ones who recommended and then organized the "Lunch With Lou" program when Lou Holtz was our football coach. During baseball games, they work the box seat section checking tickets. They wear special uniforms provided by USC that identify them as Gamecock Ambassadors.

We need to stop recruiting athletes and start recruiting baseball players. Remember guys named Roth and Wingo?

Enough with recruiting speed. Recruit hitting and arms.
