So this weekend was PerfectGame's World Championships in Jupiter, Florida and a host of Gamecock commitments were in action down there.
Here's a breakdown of how they did and some projectable stats from their performances.
Note: Recruiting coordinator Mike Current and pitching coach Jerry Meyers were down to watch the talent. Mark Kingston was out scouting a few different JUCO prospects while the players were on fall break.
Blaze Alexander (SS)
He hit .222 with two RBI. He's one of the marquee members of the 2018 class and has a cannon of an arm with a power bat. He set a record by throwing 99 mph across the infield last year and is an Under Armor All-American this year.
Brady Allen (OF)
Allen was Kingston's first official commitment at South Carolina, flipping from USF. He didn't have a hit in the tournament, but is a big bat that can help out immediately at South Carolina.
Jonah Beamon (INF)
Beamon hit .176 with three doubles and a RBI. He also stole a base.
Joel Brewer (OF)
Brewer was another former player that Kingston recruited at USF but found his way to Columbia. He hit .111 with three RBI and slugged .300. He's got speed and power in the outfield similar to TJ Hopkins now.
Xavier Bussey (OF)
Bussey, who's planning on reclassifying and enrolling with the 2018 class, hit .182 and slugged .432. His defense is really, really solid and he's got a sweet swing.
Tyler Callihan (INF)
Callihan is one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2019 class. He's an elite hitter and a good defender, but isn't settling down at one spot in the infield right now. He hit .222 with a homer this weekend.
Here's a piece on him by PG this weekend:
The South Carolina commit’s 6-foot, 195-pound frame is well proportioned with a lot of strength and athleticism, which plays well with power to the pull side. The swing itself is naturally leveraged to pull and he barreled a double late in the game to the pull gap with a 93 mph exit velocity. The swing looked good throughout the event and the athleticism shows well too with a 4.43 second turn time to first base. Callihan has two hits over two games, but has hit a couple of balls hard and has taken good swings this weekend.
It'll be intriguing to see where he finds a spot once he gets to South Carolina. If he hits for power, he's a natural fit at one of the corner infield spots.
Wes Clarke (C)
Clarke is becoming one of the biggest pick ups in the 2018 class. He continues to get better and develop. He's already showing off some solid power and is developing defensively behind the plate.
He had a good weekend, hitting .318 with four RBI and blasted a mammoth homer. He also slugged 1.045.
Kam Guidry (MIF)
Is a smooth defender that hits for contact. He went .400 with a .500 OBP. He also had an RBI.
Kyle Horton (OF)
Is another outfielder that's continuing to develop. He's a guy that can hit for contact but has some sneaky power as well. He went .286 with a stolen base. He had a .433 OBP.
Tyler Kehoe (OF)
Kehoe is an interesting prospect in the 2019 class. If Kingston can get to campus, then it's a huge get. He had a home run, five RBI and slugged .871 this weekend.
He also threw four innings and struck out two. His fastball was up to 80 mph, but he's more known for his outfield play.
PG had this write up of him:
The South Carolina commit has a strong overall profile with good athleticism and the ability to cover ground in center field. The power and bat-to-ball skills is what stood out on Sunday as Kehoe launched a home run to deep right field. The blast traveled an estimated 352 feet and he put barrel to ball throughout the day. He smoked a couple of hard hit balls throughout the day and also worked competitive at-bats to grind out a couple of walks.
He also hit this moonshot:
Brett Kerry (RHP)
He threw one inning and struck out three hitters. His fastball is up to 92 mph, which as a senior is really good. That's stuff coaches can work with at the next level.
Daniel Lloyd (RHP)
Lloyd is a big piece of South Carolina's 2018 class. He's up to 92 mph on his fastball and throws from a wonky arm angle that makes it hard for hitters to pick up the ball.
He threw 2.1 innings and struck out four with a .857 WHIP.
Will McGregor (LHP)
McGregor is becoming a very solid pitcher in the 2019 class. As a junior lefty, he's up to 87 mph on his fastball after not throwing much of the spring and picking back up in the summer.
He threw 3.1 innings and had a 2.10 ERA while striking out four.
Wesley Sweatt (RHP)
Sweatt could develop into a closer by the time he arrives at Carolina. He closed for Northwestern this year and his fastball was up to 90 this weekend. He's thrown a lot of innings this year, though and his velo could be down a tick. He was topping out this year around 92.
He threw five innings total and had four punch outs.
Trey Tujetsch (RHP)
Tujetsch came aboard once Kingston was hired. He hit .500 this weekend and I didn't see any pitching stats on him from the weekend. His fastball was up to 89 mph this summer, though.
Owen White (RHP)
He had arguably the best weekend of any Gamecock commit this weekend. His fastball was up to 93 mph, one of the best velos from the weekend. He struck out 13 in just seven innings and had a .143 WHIP.
He also hit .375 with a double, home run and RBI.
PG was very high on him after the first day, writing this:
Despite multiple strong starts by others on the day, it’s fair to say that South Carolina commit Owen White (2018, Mt. Ulla, N.C.) of the South Charlotte Panthers had the most dominant performance of the day. In a quick and pitching-heavy game, White was absolutely nails as he finished the complete game shutout while only allowing one hit and striking out thirteen batters.
