Looking for sincere feedback on this. The referees at our basketball game seemed very one sided to me. I posted this multiple times in the game thread. Others posted similar comments.
What I noticed included:
1) Bryant went strong to the hoop for a poster jam, either Tyson or Hall went up strong against him with significant contact, no call. Later Tyson attempted a poster jam, Bryant went up strong with significant contact, Tyson got the call and they reviewed the play for a flagrant.
2) PG for Clemson put his head down while driving to the basket, lost his balance and crashed into one of our bigs, blocking call on SC.
3) Flop by Hall, late in the first half, Couisnard drives around his defender and hits a mid range jumper, as the announcers are talking about how tough Couis is playing on a sore ankle. Couis barely touches Hall on his way down, Hall falls like a back of bricks and gets the charge. I think this is when CFM got the technical. It was an obvious flop.
4) Second half while we're really struggling to get rebounds, missed shot by Clemson bounces high off the rim, Benson is shoved hard in the back by Hall, near the FT line, and almost falls down. We got the rebound anyway, however the blatant shove was ridiculous.
I've been pondering this since yesterday. The game reminded me of my 11 year old son playing in a rec league game last summer. My son's team was clearly the stronger team and the refs went out of their way to try and keep the score close. My son's team won by 20 points. What was most frustrating was watching him get fouled hard on one end of the court with no call and then get called for a foul on the other end of the court when he barely touches the other player. This happened repeatedly, I had to ask our bench players to stay quiet, they were understandably upset. I explained to my son afterwards that life isn't fair and that the refs were helping to weaker team. It still frustrates me when refs interfere. In my experience most refs don't interfere, however some clearly do.
What do you think about our game yesterday? Am I wearing garnet colored glasses?
What do you say to a young player in this situation?
