As it turns out, back then several SEC teams were very good. But back then, the SEC may have been able to get 4 teams in the top 12 instead of 3.Spurrier would have only made it twice? I'm curious what circumstances would have kept that third team out.
Looking at the NCAA rankings,
In 2012, there were 8 12 win teams and 8 other 11 win teams. There were 3 SEC teams ranked higher than we were and Florida had beat us that season so that would mean 4 SEC teams ahead of us so that would have kept them out.
In 2011 we had lost 2 SEC games so UGA, 7-1, would have won the east with their 1 loss to us, but we were still the 3rd highest SEC team overall.
In 2013, Missouri won the East with 1 SEC loss to us but we were still ranked over them. We were the 2nd highest SEC team that year behind Auburn.
