Much of my life this described a large segment of the University of South Carolina fan base. Always paranoid. Always conspiracy theorist. Unable to see the bigger picture; therefore, they show up with Pitchforks and torches demanding for someone to hear them “the sky is falling” anytime difficulty comes.
Chicken little doesn’t know how to dust him self off, get up, and persevere through the difficulty.
Steve Spurrier helped hide chicken little because of his Name. The Chicken Littles knew with that name, they just had to be patient and he would get them there.
Stevie didn’t do so hot starting out. As a matter of fact not quite as good as ole Will so far. Yet his name gave him a pass. The Chicken Littles were subdued because if Steve Failed the Sky surely would fall this time. So they stuck with him and he delivered some great years, but he got lazy, complacent, and didn’t focus on strengthening his weaknesses. He left the place almost as bad as he found it.
No one wanted the job that had any clout...I mean Steve Spurrier failed. The facilities weren’t there (promises yes but they weren’t there). Yeah a few floated their names to get raises and lock down the job they really wanted. Yet a dude from Hard work U appeared still beaten down a little from his first run as a head man but with a good resume of building the things he has currently done here (things that were desperately needed after the last 2-3 years of the Spurrier era). We didn’t just have a cracked foundation at the end of the the Spurrier era, we had a crumbling one complete with dirt washing away underneath the foundation. To put it nicely. It was a Mess! More than people even know.
He has retooled our facilities with tremendous support from our AD. He has rebuilt our personnel. He has reintroduced hard work. He has reintroduced character. He has reintroduced Academic excellence. Outside of last years Injury Decimated roster, he has improved results on the field.
He did screw up majorly Saturday. He deserves a chance to fix it without Chicken Little Screaming. Someone please kill that useless bird. Live on facts not emotion. Facts Prove that our program has inproved in every way since Champ took over. He has some things to fix, but he deserves the chance to keep building. He also deserves and as a fan base we deserve to finally Kill Chicken Little.
