Wow!! I'm shocked at this one; I mean back on the day after April 8th, 1974, my grandfather went and got me my very first ever kid-sized Atlanta Braves batting helmet 'cause he and I had been watching this in his living room...Braves legend Hank Aaron dies at age 86

I was one month and 3 days old.I was 7 years old back in 1974!! Man time sure seems to have flown by quickly from this particular perspective. Gettin' older by the second(s) no doubt!!
Well hey, ya know 7 years ain't that big of a difference here at OUR ages; aren't you single right now??? LOLOLOLOL!!!! Just kidding, Just Kidding!!! Lord knows I don't even come close to your most deserved level of admiration, and not even dreamingly close to your level of beauty!!I was one month and 3 days old.
Awww you're so sweet @Gaimcock . Yes I am single right now. Have been for quite a while now. Slim pickins in the Columbia area of late.Well hey, ya know 7 years ain't that big of a difference here at OUR ages; aren't you single right now??? LOLOLOLOL!!!! Just kidding, Just Kidding!!! But hey, even some of us mid-fifties type guys have such dreams!!
WADR, and by no means did I mean the slightest of insult!

Same age as me. I loved Hank Aaron also, this is a sad day in the sports world.Wow!! Why Thank You BG!! Heck, in regards to commonness and, well, proper/comfortable "fittingness", there doesn't seem to be very many matches here in Charlotte in regards to mine own interest(s).Awww you're so sweet @Gaimcock . LOL. I've come to the conclusion that my perfect match doesn't exist. Of course at nearly 47 I'm pretty set in my ways too. You get to be my age, and you just don't want the drama. Understand, and don't be intimidated by the fact, that I know a lot about baseball (sports in general), know I will drop everything at a moment's notice for my kid, enjoy a dram of whisky in the evenings, and know how to properly tailgate. But it seems that is just too much to ask.Why Thank You BG!! I mean come on now; a native South Carolinian that grew up in one of the stateline/border counties just below Mecklenberg County (i.e. Charlotte), a DIEHARD GAMECOCK that pretty much now refers to Cola as home that is very, VERY much missed, and well, just as I stated, not many properly nor comfortably fitting "fits" at all up here in "Shahlutt"!!
WADR,
Gaim

I had not heard this. When I saw the thread title, it took the breath out of my lungs. Having the Braves move South was an epochal happening for baseball fans in the region. Now we had a team and it was a very good team and Hank Aaron was its leader. I consider him the greatest power hitter if my lifetime, a man of grace and dignity who played the game the right way. He superseded in every way the juice jockeys who followed him.
Nor I.I personally don't recognize the juiced up guys as holding any records.

Both are better!! Best I can tell ya right there!!!Is it time yet for the pointless debate of who was better, Ruth or Aaron?

I stick to my Stella, Whisky and Vodka. And the occasional wine. That's it for me.You said: "at nearly 47", heck, I'm "at nearly 54" myself!! And in regards to the content of the remainder of your post there, well I gotta tell ya, you pretty much described your's truly here to a tee!!!
Well, accept for the whiskey part that is! Me? Bud-light and/or Mich-light are pretty much the total content of my alcohol choices!! Other than the occasional lime margaritas, well your's truly here simply cannot handle liquor!! And NO I have never even come close to a DUI!! Simply cannot drink a lot of liquor, it just ain't my "thing" so to speak!!
Just curious here, but do you go to many/any of our basketball (M &/or W, either/or, both??) games?? Just curious. =;-pI stick to my Stella, Whisky and Vodka. And the occasional wine. That's it for me.
Before Covid, I'd go here and there. If the Firm was giving up their tickets, or if friends called to go, or if I decided to go on a random night after work or with Smalls.Just curious here, but do you go to many/any of our basketball (M &/or W, either/or, both??) games?? Just curious. =;-p
Got to see him hit a HR in the Astrodome years ago. What a player he was.Braves legend Hank Aaron dies at age 86

Kinda OT here, but in regards to "the Firm", and AGAMW this is simply to see whether or not you're at or close to the same "firm" as my Ex-BFH, but if its on Main Str., please tell me its NOT in the building on Main St that's between Washington and Lady St.!!!Before Covid, I'd go here and there. If the Firm was giving up their tickets, or if friends called to go, or if I decided to go on a random night after work or with Smalls.
I haven't been this season.

Ruth was one of a kind. Would hit more homers in a season than whole teams would accumulate. Back then the game wasn’t about home runs. It was small ball. Singles, doubles, etc. The baseballs had a softer core. Entire teams wouldn’t hit 50 homers in a season. Ruth hit that many by himself many timesIs it time yet for the pointless debate of who was better, Ruth or Aaron?
I'm 68 so I remember when the Braves moved to Atlanta. I remember my dad and I driving from Columbia to Atlanta to take in a few games. I remember watching Hank, Eddie Mathews, Pete Rose, etc. play. Losing the Hammer is like taking a piece of my heart out.Braves legend Hank Aaron dies at age 86

I remember all the road games on TBS with Milo Hamilton behind the mic. Most people won't remember but Larry Munson was on those early broadcasts as well.I'm 68 so I remember when the Braves moved to Atlanta.
