Do any of you guys want Texas and Oklahoma? If so, why? *

The only reason for the SEC to take them is to keep the Big 10 or ACC from getting richer. The addition of either team does not increase the SECs stature at all.
I just dont understand this take.

It seems that realignment is taking off and is going to happen. The leagues that dont strike first, often get the leftover scraps. The SEC is being proactive as it always has been and it has always paid off in the past.

As far as football, the league adding UT and OU is a gigantic coup. OU is a top 5 perennial team right now and UT has a legit national tradition on football.

Also, if you look beyond football......the Longhorns are an elite overall athletic department. OU is not far off. Also, both schools are well respected academically....especially UT.

Just my 2 cents......and its going to happen regardless of what any of us posters think.

I don’t care for it, but am not going to lose sleep.

I’m a bit anal-retentive. I like things neat, concise, and the way they’re supposed to be. This is the Southeastern Conference. TX and OU are not in the SE. Same goes for Mizzou and TAMU, which is why I wasn’t a big fan of them coming in (I understand the TV market, money, etc, etc). Again, haven’t lost sleep over any of it.
Looking at it from a competition angle, it currently doesn’t appear to help us at all. If we were a better program, it wouldn’t be as bad. But right now, we’re adding two more teams that will most likely eat our lunch which is a little discouraging (lol). Hopefully we can turn things around soon in football……. And baseball……. Oh yeah, and basketball.
It will be interesting, assuming the change happens, to see if we end up going to 4 divisions/pods.

of course I understand why the SEC is doing it, but I think their concerns are misplaced. Who cares if another league got UT and OU? SEC has Bama, UGA, Auburn, LSU, UF, Tennessee etc. The SEC is and always will be top notch as far as football is concerned (and, football is king). Yes, they are nationally recognized programs, but the SEC is already known coast to coast. And so what if the Big 10 were to add UT and OU and make more money? It’s not like it’s a business and they can put the SEC out of business. People are just so paranoid someone might get a little bit more then they have. It’s a sad way to live life.

The more money USC gets for its athletic pgm the more I like it and this new expansion is astronomical and will get even more exciting FB games. Bama vs Texas. Bama vs Ok. Hopefully Shane can Spurierrize USC's fb pgm and will be able to beat the new additions.

Wanting back to the ACC is a sad way to live life.

I don't want them because it just makes it that more implausible for us to be competitive. If you think things are bad for us now, think of how few recruits we'll get once we have 3-4 potential playoff teams in our conference. Anyone who thinks this is a good move for SC isn't being objective. More likely we should fear we'll be removed for a more competitive team in the future. We struggle to get recruits now, if OU is in the SEC, why would they come to a sub-.500 team If they can go to a potential playoff contender?

I don't care one way or another. It would be fun in baseball, and the tournament in Hoover would probably be eliminated, which is long overdue.

How is this addition helpful to South Carolina from a wins and loss perspective? I hear that the SEC East will add Alabama, and Auburn, and send Missouri to the west. That means we will play Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida Tennessee, and Clemson every year. Many years we will also play one of these teams from the West, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and A&M. We will have to make a huge improvement just to finish 6-6. Is that what you want? I want more wins per season, not a schedule that makes more wins almost impossible.

I remember back in 80's there was talk of Larry Brown coming to coach the basketball team. A reporter for The State said that would make us a "basketball" school overnight. And I laughed and I laughed and I laughed. Why? Because we are a FOOTBALL school. A football school that plays in the BEST football conference that there is. That's a dream come true. For a FOOTBALL FAN. I just don't get some of ya'll.

We didn’t join the SEC until the 90s

Our record in the SEC says we are not much of a football school. Adding Texas and Oklahoma to the conference does not make us stronger. It only makes winning conference games more difficult.

And? We didn't become a football school by joining the SEC. We have always been a football school. That's why when we joined it was a dream come true. I just don't get some of y'all. I guess not everyone is a football fan. And there's nothing wrong with that. I guess.

I want it because it's bold and seismic. I want it because it is making some people squirm, others despair, and others cower. If it comes off - it still has hurdles to clear - it will be one of the most revolutionary developments in intercollegiate sports history, and I am here to see it. Bully, I say Bully!!!

Exactly. We have some really special fans.

This is all correct. But are you going to be put off by such concerns when the spectacle alone justifies this development?

I was there; it wasn't packed; tickets were a lot cheaper then.
I was there too, I remember it being packed for N. Mexico St. The season was sold out before the 1st game whether everyone showed up or not. Are you arguing that we haven't always been a football school? Or just not standing room only after 0-21?

Yeah that really is something to brag on...accepting mediocrity is the worst thing we can do as fans. Where's our trophy for that?
What does NOT accepting mediocrity even look like? Stop being a fan? I didn't hire RT. I didn't hire WM. Tell me what not accepting mediocrity means. How are you not accepting mediocrity? Can you tell me? By wanting to move to a WEAKER CONFERENCE? That actually SCREAMS accepting mediocrity and there's no hope it will ever change. I don't believe that. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I get the feeling that you are just waiting to watch all this blow up in everyone's face. That scenario has been suggested on other schools' boards also.....just get the popcorn ready and watch.

I'm enjoying the pandemonium. I will enjoy it more if it happens. If it doesn't happen, I will have enjoyed the process and especially the passionate protestations.

If we enlarge Williams Brice and sell 100,000 tickets per game, that does nothing to elevate our SEC standing. Football is about wins and losses. I am tired of losing. I want more wins. Adding Texas and Oklahoma makes it even tougher for us to have a winning season.
Because we don't measure up. Face it.
