During my life I have met several con men. People who promised a great

No, Frank is not a con-man. Get serious. He’s a good guy and he honestly believes in what he’s doing. He just isn’t getting the job done here.
Agreed! I too believe Frank Martin is a good person based on his interviews (see Frank Martin on parents coaching from the stands or Frank Martin on Fidel Castro).

I like him and want him to succeed as South Carolina. Unfortunately, I doubt he will put together and keep a team that consistently contends for SEC East championships.

I hope I am wrong about Martin's ability to win at South Carolina.

Martin plays by the rules where Bruce Pearl cheats and gets a slap on the wrist. Martin can't win with one hand tied behind his back. If he won't do what is "necessary" in recruiting then he needs to resign or bring in assistant coaches who will.

By referencing Pearl and putting necessary in quotes, are you suggesting that Martin needs to cheat or ramp up his legal recruiting efforts.

Admittedly, I don't follow MBB nearly as close as football and baseball, but FM a con man? No, IMO it's wrong to even suggest that. I believe he is a good man and good role model. His style of coaching may be a turnoff to some, but I believe he's making a difference in young men's lives. The bottom line in college sports though is winning, and if that's a criticism, it's fair. But con man is a bridge too far.

I really like Frank Martin, but the constant turnover has made it hard to get invested as a fan. There is a often a brief glimmer of hope, and it is followed with two steps back. I used to be a big Gamecock basketball fan when I was growing up going to games at the Coliseum.

Martin is in the perfect spot. He can go .500 year in and year out, and will never lose his job because nobody cares about men's basketball anymore. Gave us 1 run, put a banner up in Colonial Life, and checked out.

Frank isn’t a con man, as almost everyone else in this thread has stated. He’s a good guy, a very knowledgeable coach, and has (maybe had) the potential to be a big winner.

Franks problem is, he has conned himself. He seems to think he can compete with and win against top teams without bringing in top talent. If he looks back at his career, almost every NCAA tournament team he’s coached had a few NBA (or at least borderline NBA) players.

This is so wrong. Frank Martin is no con man.

Still, SC needs to move on to a new coach.
See this is the part that bothers me on here too. If you don’t like and support Frank Martin that is fine.

But making crap up like he’s a con man and he’s quit and checked out is just incorrect at best and ignorant at worst.

He didn’t go out and get these transfers because he wants to quit. He didn’t switch to zone late in the game cutting a 20 point lead down to single digits because he quit. A fair criticism is he should have went to it earlier.

We went to Clemson with a shell of a roster and competed. The guys have not “tuned him out.” We May not win as much as some of you like, but that doesn’t make the crap some people post on here true.

FIFY. There are a ton of fans burning to see decent MBB at USC.

While true, this had nothing to do with Frank and everything to do with Lamont Evans and his scheme to enrich himself -- not the men's basketball program. He did the same thing to OK St and he got prison time for it. Eff him.

FTR, I'm ready for Frank to go if he doesn't Dance this year.
Due to Tanner's brilliant extension move, USC will have to pay off another coach to have him exit.

Well, if you had done your homework, you would have found out that, although FM was given a 2 year extension through 2025, his buyout was actually REDUCED as part of the new contract.

Martin's buyout -- the sum owed if he's fired without cause -- would have been $6.5 million this offseason, but under the terms of the extension, his new buyout figure can't exceed $3 million over the next two seasons, and the university will not owe him a buyout if they decides to part ways with Martin in the final two years of the deal.
