Everett Golson heading home....

Yeah. He has no other options but a school like that. He is no good and we are set at the QB position. If we dont get him or at least attempt, pretty sure he will land at a good school and it wont be CCU.

True but better to see him at SC and increase our chances of getting to an SEC championship

Not going to happen. He will end up at a power 5 school. He can play right away because he has his degree. He's not going to a "1-AA" school. I don't care where he's from. He's not transfering from ND to play at a lower level. He won't end up at SC either. He will have other schools to choose from... Texas maybe?

Unless having Golson is the different in getting us to the SEC championship game, then you don't need a 1 year guy. In the long run, it's better to develope one of those younger QBs we have and let them learn by playing. With all the questions we have at WR (who other than Cooper will catch a ball), RB (can Wilds play a full season), OL (we lost 2 starters to the NFL), and our entire defense (it was pretty bad last year), adding an experience QB is not going to make the 2015 team a contender. He might be the difference in going 6-6 and 7-5, but with all the question marks we have, I think it's better to let one of these guys that we actually recruited for Spurrier's system show what they can do. I mean, we had a pretty good QB last year who put up good numbers, but we were still 6-6 in the regular season, so even if Golson puts up a few better numbers than Thompson did, it won't make that big of a difference and could cause us to lose some young promising QBs who will be here longer.

"He won't end up at SC either"

How do you know this or just pure speculation? He may not end up here but just wondering what makes you think there is no chance? I have heard we are looking into it at the minimum.

Golson wants to be closer to home. I'm pretty sure that Texas would be further away than South Bend.

He has to have a signed waiver from the SEC to play for an SEC school, since he was suspended from ND for academic fraud. At least that was what I was told.

Wasn't suspended for "academic fraud." Per UND, it was "poor academic judgment."

From my understanding, he is an excellent student but he allowed other individuals to cheat off his papers.

Read the rest of the post. It doesn't make much sense if it's not going to take us to a championship and it hinders the development of younger players. The Gamecocks have too many other question marks for him to take us from what could be a 6-6, 7-5 type of season to something much greater. Not worth it in the long run in my opinion.

jim, seeing that Golson will visit Columbia and Athens and spoke this morning with a local sportscaster had heard Florida State was interested. No way to tell what may happen but I would not be surprised if Coach Spurrier takes a different approach this season than he may have ever before since he has little time left to make it hap. Players leaving it seems since he said he only has a few years left in him, he really needs to have a stellar QB,,, which despite detractors,,,, as you and I have seen,,,,Golson may well be. EG certainly has the skill / potential to be a season changer.

some say what difference could Golson make or who cares if Gamecocks win a few more games with him than without,,, at the expense of future development. Well Steve may not give a cluck about future development and will take one game at a time more intently than ever. But if I was Golson and had a chance to play at Georgia or Florida State with the talent those programs have and especially schedule FSU has,,, I would go Tallahassee

Well, if he decides to come close to home and comes to USC as far as the QB situation is it's every man for himself. To BE the man you got to BEAT the man first. He wouldn't be a lock at the position but he won't hurt none...lol

Let's not get too carried away. Only way we win an SEC title is if our defense gets a lot, lot better. It will not be just because we bring in Golson. Don't get me wrong....he's a solid QB. However Dylan Thompson's stats were very, very similar to Golson's last year and we only went 7-6.

I do like the fact that Golson is a proven QB at this level which would give us an option in case Mitch isn't ready for primetime. I also don't buy into the notion that you play for next year. In sports you never play for next year. You play to win today. You only play for next year when the game is already won. If Spurrier thinks Golson will help us, then he should bring him aboard. If not, I'm not going to fret because I think Mitch is going to be a good one for us.

With our luck, we bring him in and piss off Mitch. Mitch decides to transfer and Golson blows out his knee in practice.

We are no where near set at QB, I would love to see Golson as a gamecock this year.

It's not like we're paying these guys. There's no down side if he comes here. He either pushes Mitch for competition, or he beats him out.

You bet'ya Captain Obvious ^

According to the 247Sports report, the Gamecocks and the Bulldogs are Golson's top two choices. Bleacher Report's Barrett Sallee says South Carolina is equally interested in Golson.

"A source inside the South Carolina program told Bleacher Report that the school is interested in Golson and that the quarterback's camp has known of its interest since December," Sallee writes.

It will be more like "crushes" him out.

Now, I too want to be a 'believer' in the new kid, but you have to look at the plain facts: QB(undefeated regular season at Notre Dame) vs QB(2 completed passes vs Furman).

If we can get Golson, we do.

seahawk you're finally over that beat down MC gave you I see. I never had a problem with Golson it's the MB smart *** fans like you who tire me. I hope you enjoyed the Seahawk glory days 'cause they're history now. With that said. Golson would be a good addition but he would not exactly walk in and be crowned king of QB that's the "obvious" statement. He was a great QB @ Myrtle Beach but average at ND. I'd love to see him compete in the Garnet and Black if he can beat out the rest.

MB smart ass fans?...I went to their rival Socastee, but would love to have Golson

Kid has played in more big games than half our roster and ALL our QB's. bring him in! Of course it takes QBs 6 years and receivers 4 to learn Spurriers complex offense.

golson wont lead this team to an sec championship. best qb in our history got us there 1 time, and remember how that turned out? and this team is nowhere close to that one...

Maybe not but I would feel like we have a better chance with him than without
