Final Four coaches feel transfer portal is "out of control"

In their minds it may be out of control, but I see the portal as a way for these kids to have some control over their futures. Yes, less would be in the portal if these kids used different criteria to pick their school instead of making emotional choices or going for the popular thing. Either way they don't have any control over who drafts them or even if they get drafted....so.

Not to mention Coaches feel free to leave a program when something better comes along after he/she sat down and told these kids families that I'm going to take care of your child etc etc. SC Dakota WBB Coach and St Patrick's MBB coach just took other jobs after taking their 2022 team to the Elite 8 & Sweet 16. These coaches are full of sh*t!!

(applies to all sports - both genders really)

College sports are now a business. So it is natural that now both players and coaches follow the money.
The colleges with the most $$$$ to pay are the colleges that sign the best players and coaches

That’s true but only in the last year or two have they acted like the players, the ones that largely generate the revenue, should have any piece of that revenue.

Better get those big bags while they can. It is going to take a couple years, but the NIL stuff will calm down greatly. And sooner, or later, there us going to have to be some accountability from the athlete side. Right now they have the best of all worlds. The players wanted a cut of the pie. OK. Now you are a pro. Pros have to have contracts.

Incisive.

things seem messy. I always wondered what happened once you officially enter the portal and no other college picks you up?
Say your a full scholarship athlete at SC. After the season you decide that the weather is to hot tI play in so you enter the portal…… what if no team picks you up….. or they do but don’t offer the scholarship part?
Unless someone like Nick Saban comes u to them after a gave and whispers in your ear to enter the portal and we’ll start you- it’s not a safe choice. It seems like there could be a lot of dirty behind the scenes stuff going wheee coaches start poaching players from other teams.

Also

Florence SC product. Bama should be nice next season

Portal as well. She dealt with a lot of injuries at Norte Dame but kid is good. Also had SC in her final selections

I know Brenda Freese lost her Dad recently. Did time away cause her to lose the locker room? Or do the kids think that the Sweet 16 is all she has in her. That's a good team.

The portal as of today

951 transfers, incl 271 grad transfers
118 previously transferred DI--DI
118 have selected their new schools so far

Somehow, some rules are going to have to be implemented to the TP. Whether it be # of times you can transfer, or not being eligible to participate immediately on a ongoing season.
The NCAA despite what most think is not some giant monolith sitting on top of the hill. The NCAA Board of Governors is the governing body in the NCAA. Bringing together presidents and chancellors from each division along with select leaders from inside and outside the NCAA membership, this board is responsible for leading the NCAA and presiding over issues that affect the entire NCAA membership. So one could safely assume that coaches would be able to have some say in the matter.

College sports has always been a big business, but at expense of the student-athlete. It's nice to see the kids have a chance obtain monetary support and the ability to have some respect paid to them by the coaching staff. They way some of the coaches and their staffs have spoken to these kids is abysmal. Now, the kids don't have to take the verbal and sometimes physical abuse, they can go elsewhere.

I won't deny her her ring - but she should've left last year

IMO, the portal is fine. The issue came when they allowed players to play immediately post transfer. There should still be a waiting period.
