Camp season is here.
As is customary in the month of June, Will Muschamp and his staff will welcome campers that will number into the thousands during 10 days of prospect camps. A host of those will be priority targets, prospects that the staff otherwise has a significant interest in going forward, or players that the staff hopes to get a closer look at in a camp setting.
The camp types will vary; here’s a breakdown:

*** Thursday’s (June 6) session will kick off with an appearance from a south Florida defensive back that the Gamecock staff has been monitoring closely.
Hollywood (Florida) McArthur product Jerrold Pough has not drawn a lot of attention due his two-star ranking and relatively modest offer list, but history shows that Will Muschamp is wholly unconcerned about all that when it comes to camp performances. We’ve mentioned Pough more than once as a player that USC’s been interested in and wanted to see more of at camp. If he does well, things could progress.
Also joining the McArthur crew for a college tour that has included stops at Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Clemson will be 2022 defensive back Alfonzo Allen. The 6-foot, 175-pounder has already been hit with some Power 5 offers from Penn State, Miami, Syracuse, and Tennessee.
*** In-state linebacker Darryle Ware out of Fort Dorchester is a player that USC has been keeping an eye on, although he’s fallen below the offer board to date. Gamecock coaches were not able to attend Ware’s spring game at Fort D, but did invite him to camp. Ware chose the first possible day to get in front of the defensive staff.
****** On Friday (June 7), a few names of interest will be in town working out.
*** We dropped a note on The Insiders Forum in the last few days that three-star defensive tackle Makius Scott would be in Columbia to participate in camp on Friday. The Peach State big man has shown an affinity for the Gamecocks program and has been in town multiple times already. USC’s board along the defensive line has narrowed as its advanced pursuit on several high-profile targets. Scott is still one in which there’s been mutual interest, so one worth tracking.
*** A young quarterback out of the Peach State will also be throwing in front of quarterbacks coach Dan Werner; 2022 passer Bryce Archie out of Powder Springs (Georgia) McEachern. He’s a three-sport (baseball/basketball/football) athlete who’s beginning to emerge.
*** Finally, a very intriguing defensive back out of Virginia will be on hand in 2021 product Bryce Steele. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder looks the part physically and already has a substantial Power 5 offer list to his credit. Assistant coach Kyle Krantz has done well in getting underclassmen from his recruiting area on campus for workouts and unofficials, and Steele looks like the latest.
*** Chapin’s Thornton Gentry, a 2021 offensive lineman who turned in solid performances on the camp circuit this spring, will be on hand as well for a workout.
***** Two in-state defensive back prospects will be camping during the Gamecocks’ Saturday session on June 8 in hopes of impressing the USC staff.
***& Sumter’s O’Donnell Fortune is one from the 2020 class; the long corner prospect holds offers from Colorado, Kansas, and Syracuse, among others and is someone the staff has kept tabs on throughout the process.
*** Belton-Honea Path’s Bralyn Oliver recently made some waves when he picked up an offer from Georgia. The Upstate product from the 2021 class is someone that Will Muschamp and company have had under evaluation and seen in a camp setting previously; they will get another look on Saturday.
***** The dates of June 13 and 14 will certainly be busy for the staff, with USC holding two days of OL/DL camp as well as a team passing camp. All indications are that the 7-on-7 sessions will be loaded with talent, with the team field the biggest it has ever been during Muschamp’s tenure in Columbia.
*** Out of Georgia, Camden County will make the trip and participate in the team passing tournament. The Wildcats program has a pair of offered prospects in 2021 wide receiver Shawn Hardy and 2022 RB Jamie Felix.
It is also, of course, home to longtime offensive line target Micah Morris from the 2021 class. Morris is planning on being on campus that day as well, which will mark his fourth visit to South Carolina.

*** 2021 tight end Cane Berrong, who’s drawn interest from the Gamecocks, will be in town participating with his Hart County team out of Georgia.
*** Myers Park, which produced current freshman OL Jaylen Nichols, will be participating in the tournament on Friday as well. Offered 2021 quarterback Drake Maye will be in action, as will UNC pledge Cameron Roseman-Sinclair and recent Texas A&M commitment Muhsin Muhammad.

*** Lowcountry program First Baptist has a wide receiver in Sincere Brown that South Carolina likes, but will not get to in the 2020 class barring something unforeseen. He’s still a good player who should go Group of 5 or Power 5.
*** In addition to Kentucky DB commitment Andru Phillips, Mauldin has a 2022 corner with excellent size in Jeadyn Lukas that we hear is progressing well and has a chance to be Power 5.
