I like it but rarely get to have it as I grew up with vinegar based, which is my preference, and my wife and kids prefer tomato based sauce. I wanna make some for the house.

Like a little bit of pulled pork with your mustard do you?? I would MUCH rather have the ketchup based BBQ myself. All these BBQ places around here in the midlands just hose it down with TOO MUCH mustard. It's like drinking out of a jar of mustard, then eating a bite of meat in between. I can eat some of it, but not very often. I drive by Shealy's every day going to work, but seldom ever stop there.

I like the bbq from the Pee Dee. Here in Orangeburg, you get a lot of the mustard. It is probably easier to buy the mustard sauce than make it.

Like their sauce, not a fan of their bbq. If you're not doing a vinegar based bbq sauce, just go buy something.

CockyKebo you disappoint me. I don't think Shealy's drowns there's in BBQ sauce, but I know what you mean some other people's BBQ. As far the ketchup based, disgusting in my opinion.

Slim, try this one it is from the magnoliia's in charleston. This one is kind of a hybrid, flavors from all three. The mustard seeds will pop when you eat the bbq.
now, if somebody has a Shealy's type hash recipe i will be in heaven

Not a mustard based fan, but damn that sounds pretty good!

Shealys also has a vinegar based bbq now. It's pretty good. Not as good as the pee dee area bbq but decent for this area.

1 C mustard
1 C apple cider vinegar
2 T brown sugar
1 t paprika
1 t Worcestershire sauce
1 t white pepper
1 t cayenne

Simmer and Adjust to taste. Thank me tomorrow

BIGRUSS' Recipe is the same as mine. Except I use black pepper
I hear ya! I will season with freshly cracked black pepper to taste while it simmers as the vinegar and sugar can mask some of the heat. You can always kick it up a notch with a chili oil (red pepper flakes), but I prefer the pungency of white pepper with this recipe.

Used this one many times.

1 cup[ mustard
1 cup catsup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
3 tbsp. soy sauce
3 tbsp. molasses
2 tbsp. black pepper (coarse ground)
1 tbsp. salt

Pour all ingredients in a quart jar, shake.

If you need more, make more.

Good stuff.

Buy mine, Barry's South Carolina Style Barbeque Sauce,. It is available at all the Old Timey Meat Markets in & around Columbia and at the State Museum gift shop. Give it a a try !

Maybe I'm strange, but am I the only one that don't like any type of sauce for my bbq? If it's juicy and good I don't really need it. I also feel the same about steaks, because stuff like A1 ruins it for me.

Right on. If its been smoked correctly it will have all the flavor you need cooked into it.

With that said. This was my Dads recipe.

Thousand island
Vinegar
Molasses/brown sugar
Pepper to taste
Little bit of Worcester.

You'll know when you get it right-thats what he always told me.
